Yeah, I ran into this over the weekend. If I didn't live 4 hours from the nearest J.Crew and only stopped in because I was going through Portland I would have taken them up on the offer. There were only 3 things I was looking for this weekend (surplus sweater, red chambray, new madras shirt) and they didn't have any of them in the store...although the red chambray was a long shot anyway. I did notice that the J.Crew factory store had some of the exact same tailored fit secret wash shirts for 1/2 the price that the regular store had. Oh yeah, Converse outlet store a couple doors down from J.Crew had the same distressed blue canvas Purcells that J.Crew is selling...only they were $20.

Has anybody purchased any of the new 501s? Do they run true to size?

They do but they're a rip off.

Saw them in the store.

They looked and fit okay (and yes, TTS), but really, just go get some $30 STFs and wear them hard.

So I just called a few Jcrew stores to see if they were hiring part time, are they required to say they "are not hiring, but will accept applications"? I have no retail experience at all so I am not sure how it works, but Im wondering if I should take a few visits to the store and bug them cause its hard to tell if they really are not hiring or if they are just trying to filter out the non-persistent.

I would if the STF blue color didn't look like ****. Tried some on today at Sears but they were not on sale and were marked $48. Double that cost and you have some nice selvage indigo Levis. Not a ripoff to me. Really want the salt soaked in 36 or 38 inseam though

just go to the one you prefer, dressed well (as in tucked button down, maybe some khakis ala j.crew look book) and turn in your application... most of the associates are usually part time. Retail is NO science, you just have to have a good personality always willing to help the customer and be friendly, imaginative, and a good conversation starter without being to pushy. Recommend stuff, show off the newest styles, etc. The rest of the work is knowing how to fold shirts, learning how to use their computer to ring up people, and following instructions from the managers on setting up/organizing the store. Every week you usually have to re-stock stuff and re-organize. This is pretty much the same thing for every retail store. I think shoe retail is very easy as you don't have to fold and everything fits in a box. I worked at Journeys for like two years while I was in high school and another shoe store for like 6 months as well.

just dress nice and ask for an application
preferably ask for the manager, talk briskly etc. both of mines are full, turns out a lot of teachers work at jcrews for the discounts

the hardest part of any retail job is giving a ****. this is why so many SAs will not know anything about their product, they just go to work, fold clothes, punch out, and go home. it's different from the other side, where you're an enthusiastic consumer and keep up with the latest catalogues, etc., but it's always nice and i'm definitely more willing to buy from employees who know about the things they're selling.

the thing about the $98 levi's is that they're made of cone denim, i thought that was a nice touch. i was pleasantly surprised that my 484s are made in canada and have chainstitched details, was not expecting that from a beater jean.

Hey, I hope you guys don't mind me posting here. Thread nazis are telling me to keep my thoughts out of the recent purchases thread.

Anyway they're pissed off because I dared to post one comment about how I went to possibly purchase somehting at Urban Outfitters (I had never been inside one) and found the quality much below J. Crew. I sticking to my guns. The only good thing I saw were Levi's 511 cords.
