Hi everyone...recently found this forum and think it's great. I bought a suit for NYE a few weeks ago and just got it back from the tailor. I don't really wear suits, so I wasn't too sure what I needed to get tailored other than hemming the pants and altering the sleeve length. Just an off the rack suit, nothing expensive. I took a quick shot of the suit last night and would like some opinions on the suit and any shirt tie combos that might look nice rather than the plain white/black tie I was planning on going with. I am also in the hunt for some brown oxfords, but can't find any at the local shopping center that I like. Sorry for the ****** iphone camera quality. My first post so be gentle

It looks way too short. Also the button stance is really high, which makes the suit look even shorter than it already is. Sleeves are a tad too short, but I think it's acceptable. Shoulders and waist look good. Can't tell about the chest from looking at it straight on.

Button up that collar, son.

The suit seems a bit tight around the midsection, see how it is pulling at the first button? Not a good sign. Other than that I would potentially slim the pants a tiny bit, but that's just personal preference.

Overall I say good purchase; it's rare that an OTR suit fits someone so well.

As for shirts and ties, go wild. I'm seeing a light grey suit (correct me if I'm wrong) with a subtle plaid pattern. There are very few shirt/tie combos that wouldn't match it.

EDIT: The above poster pointed out something that I did not at first realize, which is that the cut is rather fashion-forward. I like it, but I can see why some may see it as a problem.

^^ Agree with above post. I actually prefer a somewhat slimmer suits, so I like the cut.

You do have a lot of room for color/pattern combos, wear it to a store and try things out to see what looks good. You can do a lot of different things for different occasions, so that's nice.

I don't particularly like the silhouette of your jacket (too high buttoning point and slightly too short for my taste) but the suit fits you very well. You might consider slimming the trousers a tad from what I can see, but don't do it if it's going to be uncomfortable later. Also from this angle it seems the waist could be let out a tad, but I could be wrong.

Your shirt and tie combo look fine, but almost anything would work with a versatile suit like yours. Also, button your top button and pull your tie up!!

A bit short i know of the new slim suit fashion but when your suits tailored to the point where its cutting your circulation off you have a problem. lol

If i had the suit i think a nice black sweater vest with a white shirt and black tie would look lovely.

I think the jacket length wouldn't be so bad if the sleeves were just a tad bit longer. Having both treading for higher ground really throws me off a bit.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I plan to button the top button, just didn't do it last night as it was late. I'll play around with the different shirts/ties I have at home.

As for the pattern of the suit, it is POW.

Also, when people say it looks too short, what are they referring to? The jacket itself?

Yes, it's a bit short in length for most on this forum. The general rule for traditional/conservative jacket length is that it should cover your rear end. Can't tell from the front, but it doesn't look like yours does. However as you know, current "fashion" style is for shorter jackets. So, maybe that's what you like, just not as popular on here.

The general rule regarding suit length is that you should be able to curl your fingers under the bottom of the jacket. The shorter the jacket, the more "avant-garde" (how I loathe that term) it is, while a longer jacket is generally seen as rediculous.

It's a bit short, but not so much that I would say it's a problem or many people are likely to notice. I would, however have the sleeves let down a bit. As you wear it they will ride up on your arm and be a bit shorter still.

I would wear a skinnier tie with that suit given the slim lapels. Generally tie width should match the lapel width, so try 2 1/2 - 3 inch tie and see what you think.

That's a nice easy rule to remember.

Is it just me or do the cuffs seem a little snug on his shirt?

The body of the jacket is a hair tight but everything else looks great.

The high button stance really throws off everything. Looks like a three button even though it is only a two.
