Need car recommendations

I'm in the market for a car. I bought a Jetta about 5 months ago, and it is a pretty big piece of shit. Being a 23 year old on a low salary, I need something that is more reliable. Do you guys have any recommendations in the 16-17k range?

Weird, I was just looking at that and the Toyota Matrix. The Fit is definitely 3 times uglier, but all reviews say it's the better buy. I have a long commute so gas mileage is a concern, and I need something that will be reliable in the snow. I also don't want my girlfriend's nether region to dry up when she sees my car.

is it a new jetta? what was bad about it? i have a couple of people i know that owns jettas and they rave about it. i dont know if they really know anything about cars though so i take it with grain of salt their opinions about the jettas

Thanks for all the input.

I've been reading more about the Jetta and the problems I'm having. It may not be as severe as I thought, a lot of it coming from oil sludge problems? I'm not 100%. I have another 4k miles of warranty though, and 24k miles of warranty from certified pre-owned. Since I paid the car off already though, I guess it's not the best to buy something new. I'm just going to do my best to maintain it and hope nothing happens for a long time. I guess I worry more since I'm driving my car 70-80 miles a day.

Definitely a well-maintained, secondhand Fit or Civic. Both affordable, easy to maintain and youthful for your age. The Matrix is worse looking IMO and is basically the Pontiac Vibe rebadged.

Seriously. If you honestly think the Matrix is better looking than the Fit, you need to have your eyes examined. The Matrix looks like a wool mini-van someone threw in the dryer.
