Monk straps: Any regrets? - Page 5

I have the Lowndes in black and consider them my flagship shoe. I wore them once to work while breaking them in and it just so happens that my CEO came down for some presentation and afterwards asked me about the shoe and where he could get them. I thought long and hard and then decided to email him later with further details and explained to him what a monk shoe is and he (not his PA) responded with thanks.

My next shoe and possibly last for a while (I have done everything I wanted with shoes) will be the Lowndes in Brown. Forget all the childish homo references. This is in my opion a very sharp shoe and deserves the attention it draws.

+1, I have the Lowndes and love it. The only double monk which can trump it is the Canali below. Have tried to find the Canali at the Bangkok and Delhi Canali boutiques with no luck. The only time I have seen them for sale at B & S they were snapped up in a couple of hours while I was asleep.

This thread peaked my interest again in the Lowndes, maybe I should give it a try with a different pair of pants.

Does anyone have actual pictures of them wearing the Lowndes or double monks with jeans/chinos or any pants for that matter?

Bought my first (and only) pair of monks earlier this year at Friends and Family promo at BB. I'm very happy with them. I like that I can pair them with slacks or jeans.

So, in other words, no, I have no regrets.

I was on the fence as well about purchasing a pair of lowndes... y'all convinced me. Damn styleforum.

Though I had a pair of monk straps that I wore in college more than 40 years ago, I really hadn't given any consideration to purchasing anything similar since. But then one of the forum members had a pair of NOS Johnson and Murphy monks in the B and S listings at a great price (around $60). They both looked great and were in a narrow width to match my - unfortunately for finding good-fitting shoes - narrow foot. Following the advice of Will from A Suitable Wardrobe, I've been wearing them a lot with casual pants/fall sportcoats and have gotten a ton of compliments.

Do any of you think the key to a modern monkstrap is the relative narrow width of the straps vis-a-vis older models, as well as a sleeker last? I used to think a monkstrap would never belong to my shoe wardrobe, but this thread is causing a serious rethink.

Yes, I also used to think of a monkstrap is a boring/stodgy style pre-SF.

100% of the time that i wear my various double monk shoes... people always compliment them.

You shouldnt think twice about getting a pair. The Lowndes are a great shoe.

My first pair of high-end shoes were Lowndes and I haven't looked back. I'm up to 6 pair now and they always get compliments. I love them.

Can you dress down the Lowndes (jeans, khakhis, wool pants, ie., without a suit or even sportcoat)?
