Hi all - I'm new here
smile.gif

Just wondering whether anyone has tried suit-shop.com. They are based in Australia. Site says that the tailor is Patrick Johnson. The pictures look quite good to me and a few articles I have found say that MTM suits start at $1200. I would be very keen to hear thoughts if anyone has one of their suits.

Thanks!

They appear awfully expensive for what is essentially off-shore MTM. Their website is paper thin, too. No detailed mention of the types of fabrics, buttons, full canvassing or fusing etc. etc. To be honest, you can find better MTM elsewhere for less and if you want the full bespoke route, in Australia there are plenty of options.

Thanks for your response 'TheWraith'. While I am new to this I too thought the website certainly lacked a lot of detail. I have sent an email seeking more info so we will see how things go.
I was attracted to this option as I am in my 20s so I liked the idea of having someone young making the suit as that may assist to get a more modern/young cut/fit (that is probably a naive view and I would be more than happy to be set straight in this regard!).
I like the pictures on his site and in this article:
http://www.theblackmail.com.au/issue...ollowing-suit/

TheWraith - you mentioned that I could do better MTM. $1200 is about the top of my budget. I have read through tons of posts here and lots of the discussion is in a higher price bracket and I think possible not MTM (Adamo Marrone etc). Is there consensus on the best MTM in Sydney/Melbourne? Especially for a professional in their 20s looking...?

Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated (especially if anyone has used Patrick's suit shop.com service). This site is such a great place to learn and hopefully one day contribute

You will have to ask around for Sydney/Melbourne tailors MTM prices - Adriano Carbone, Adamo Marone, Sam DiSano and more. Some, if not all of them, do MTM as well as bespoke. Bespoke would be higher than your $1,200 budget.

You could go the online MTM route, with someone like Steven Aver, and get a good result for under $1,000AUS with a top-notch fabric choice too. There are other options in online MTM, such as Pernac Paris, Thick as Thieves and Indochino, among others. The point being, you do have available options.

I'm a big fan of Pernac and have bought a few suits from them now. The quality is great. I spend around $850 per suit and it's Italian fabric. I went into the showroom once and now just do it all online. Great value. Highly recommend. Also, as an aside, i found a great online hat shop. It's called Truffauxhttp://www.truffaux.com

I've heard good things about Pernac, and indeed have emailed the Melbourne fellow a few times. Seems like a good business all round.

I hadn't heard of Yensen. Their site looks interesting though no price details for their MTM line.

I heard it starts from $1500 for the "custom" line, but I'm not sure whether that indicates MTM or bespoke

Yeah, it doesn't actually go into details, though it sounds like it could be bespoke (it mentions fittings, hand sewn this and that etc.)

Fair enough. The website is pretty thin on the ground, information wise, so that should be a warning, I guess.

I am after a couple of new suits. I liked a Navy Anthony Squires one in DJ's going for$1100. Same price range as Herringbone so it is hard to choose between them they both fit well enough. Have to wait for a sale!

Sportscraft have a few new suits out a nice dark grey with very feint blue squares, I have no idea about their quality, they are approx $660 new but 25% off until Monday which might make it a good price for what it is? Sportscraft also do Saba but they are costly, made in China and not at all to my taste.

Raja Fashions was recently in the Sydney Radisson hotel, measuring up etc... I think if you want a suit made for you it is way more cost effective to get it done overseas. A guy at work bragged about getting two suits and eight shirts made for AUD1000. I did not get any information other than they fit well from what I saw, and that it was on a work trip to HK. AUD1k seems a bit low but I have never been to HK.

Any knowledge on the Sportscraft suits? I can't find the new Autumn suits online anywhere so no link!
