General Athletic Build Thread - Page 3

Ah, unfortunately the closest AE to me is 70 miles away, so I buy their stuff online. They do, however, have free returns (they even pay the shipping) so it's not bad, just a pain to have to order multiple sizes of everything.

Don't tease us like that? I'm not that good at forum searching. :P At least give us the thread title...

Eh? That was a quote of a quote. If you look above his post the full (original) quote is there.

Fixed to be more readable. I now realize you didn't say you posted pics, just posted about them. Got pics?

Good thread! It's surprisingly difficult to find threads like this around. Anyone have measurements near mine? Chest - 43 (I feel like this might be more around a 42 with change, I thought the tailor left a little room) Neck - 16.5 Waist - 33 Height 5'11' Weight - 174 (give or take a few pounds depending on meals)

I would say that the "SF approved" company that is most user-friendly to guys with "athletic builds" is epaulet.

Their shirts in size L should fit you perfectly. I'm pretty sure that their fit model is about the same size. The darts in those shirts work perfectly to slim the shirt down through the body for guys with big drops. I have the same measurements as you, except that I am 6'3, 200 lbs, and epaulet shirts in size XL fit very well. I find Gitman to be too boxy and BoO to be too slim. Epaulet splits the difference (plus Mike is a mensch so it's good to support his store).

I also recently got a pair of the epaulet EP's Smith Straight Leg jean in size 32. They do a pretty good job of accommodating my crossfit thighs right out of the box, and should be perfect after 15-20 wears.

Thanks for the heads up on BR. Though I'm probably a L or XL.

Just copped a V-neck BR sweater in size small on sale for $40. Fits like a glove.

I didn't but I do now.

As requested: Armani Exchange Pima Cotton Crew Neck in XS. "Winter" colored.
(Sorry the fluorescent lighting makes the photo quality / colors poor).

Too tight.

I may agree about wearing just the t-shirt out, but they're perfect as a base layer for underneath a knit or a BD, IMO, which is primarily what I bought them for. But at the same time, I don't think the fit is so tight it makes me look like a "meat head". They also shrink quite a bit in the dryer and then stretch out (in the areas that are stressed) as you're wearing them. If I wore it a bit longer, it wouldn't fit quite as tight as in the photo. Edit: Also, it looks like the sleeves would hike up if I move my arms around, but they stay put very well.

It's fine for layering, but it pulls too much at the top of your chest.

That's what wifebeaters are for.

The body fits fine. The arms, however, do not.

Totally agree. I wear XL in their shirts and it's all good.

I can get any T-Shirt to fit like that.

You're right. It doesn't taper, as you can see that it doesn't hug my waist like it does my chest. I guess it's not exactly perfect, but this is the closest I've come to a perfect-fitting T-shirt. I'll have to see how their others fit (non solid-color). The S was too long P2P, and the neck didn't fit as well - not to mention I think the XS is the perfect length, vertically. Shirts never stop at the pockets there for me, which is the right spot IMO.

Being just under 5' 7" with my proportions, it's been difficult to find even something that fits like these. I think we can all agree they're a great base layer, however, considering the neck fit and the length. That's really what I was going for with these.
