Buying a New Bed

Buying a new bed. What should I be looking for in a bed/matress? Whats the latest technology in beds...other than USB ports?

Just get whatever you think is most comfortable. I'm also in the market for a new bed.

Yeah, I am also looking at buying new beds. Who knew there were so many different choices and options? So many things to research that I just don't care about. I want normal, non-ugly double beds, but instead I am confronted with hundreds of options, I really can't be bothered. Also, fuck me but mattresses are expensive. Maybe I will just sleep on the floor.

My advice is find a store with a good return policy. I had a very good experience at sleeptrain (I do not work there/have any financial interest there), where I purchased a mattress thinking "softer is better", only to find out that 3 days later my back was killing me. They happily took it back, even picked it up for me, and let me switch to another mattress that was a million times better. Don't let price be too big a sticking point. I recommend you invest in a good mattress for a few reasons. 1) you spend 6-8 hours on it a day, and those hours greatly affect the rest of your day. 2) You can keep a good mattress for a long time. Amortize the cost over the years of good service it will bring you, and you will not mind. My mattress retailed at 1700, I paid 900, and have been using it for 4 great years.

Actually a very good idea. I have never felt better since I got rid of my beds and went Japanese - got a shiki futon mattress for the floor and have never looked back. It is very firm and very good for the back.

As a bonus, you won't believe how much room you really have in your house until you roll up the futon in the morning and stick it in the closet.

yeah definitely find somewhere with a great return policy. i went with a soft mattress and slept great at first but very soon the whole mattress dimpled in the spot where i liked to sleep effectively making a crater.

+1 for going japanese - until a broad comes over!

If you go the full Japanese and turn your bedroom into a tatami room, it might actually lend an air of cultural sophistication that could help in this regard....
