End of the decade?

Why are there all these 'end of the decade' or 'best of the decade' discussions popping up? The end of the decade is 31 Dec 2010.

People are stupid. Time is fucked up. Does it really matter?

wow, that's very profound...I enjoy getting philosophical myself from time to time. I think up quotes like, 'you're a stupid douchebag, and pretty much a waste of carbon and space.'

I love philosophy.

Uhh, am I wrong. Time started at 0. 0000 to 0001 is year one. so then, 1-2 is year two. So on to 9-10 being year 10, the end of the decade? Hmm, seems to be the Roman's lack of a zero may have something to do with confusion and makes the above wrong. Second Edit. A decade is any interval of 10 years and common practice is to call Dec. 31, 2009 the end of this decade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000%E2%80%932009

Who gives a shit what some peckerwood scientist says is the end of the decade? In common usage today the '9 year is the end of the decade, and has been for a while.

It's like getting all up in a huff about tomatoes being in the vegetable aisle because they are really a fruit. Who cares?

More importantly, have we agreed to refer to this past decade as the noughties, and to the years as "twenty-oh-something" rather than "two-thousand-and-something?"
