I wish to karaoke in, NYC without the hipness of Reo Speedwagon or, aggro of Warzone perhaps, belching out, Bittersweet Symphony or, Suedehead .

Perhaps MetroS'z will know, of a place which the drunkers roam, of Chinese and Uzbekistan with, mic in hand .

Do you prefer in front of everyone or private room? Assuming you enjoy the private room:

- Can't go wrong with K-Town (32nd btwn. 5th and Bway). Maru is upscale. Try Players II for trendy. Management has changed but they are still pretty decent peeps. Gagopa for bottom of the barrel, although epic nights have been known to occur here with some regularity.

If you like white people more, you can try Sing Sing in the East Village. There are other assorted spots throughout the city but for the most part they are interchangeable.

I would rather, not go for a private room as I, prefer to drink openly, alone.

I happen to love the kitchiness of East on 55th bet. 7th and Broadway.. decent food, crowd not as packed as a few years ago, but good vibe and nice people overall.

well in k-town you get all the places where you rent out a booth and they certainly have their charm.... however my all time favorite place is Sing-Sing in alphabet city.. there's a plenty bars in the area so it's always hopping, but the actual karaoke bar is never stick-up-the-ass. you can wail whatever you like with whoever you like and i guarantee people will be laughing with. *edit: i did not realize that bill clinton and i share the same taste in interns as well as karaoke joints.

If you don't want the private rooms, hit up k-bars in Chinatown. Singing at the bar or open lounge is free, they charge you on your drinks.
