What to wear to a football game (indoors)

This Sunday afternoon the wife and I are going to the Falcons-Bills game, in Atlanta. The stadium is domed, and there won't be any tailgating beforehand, so weather isn't much of a consideration. I don't own a sweatshirt, or any clothing with a Falcons logo on it, but I think I have a red ski hat (Falcons colors are red and black).

I haven't been to a sporting event since I started dressing like a grown-up, and I'm honestly not sure what to wear. Any suggestions?

Anything you want. There are no sartorial rules for football games. I would avoid any ambiguous clothing such as keffiyehs or ascots.

I dare you to wear a suit.

You can probably get away with "southern trad" since its in Atlanta. OCBD, chinos preferably or jeans, boat shoes, surcingle belt...red if possible. Tweed or cord sportjacket if you're lucky people won't spill ketchup on it. It's what I wear for my college home games.

My wife told me that wearing a suit to an NFL game is grounds for divorce. Too bad, since a gray flannel suit with a red tie would look great.

Even though the stadium won't be that full since the Falcons aren't in playoff contention and Atlanta sports fans are terrible, I'm still a little concerned about drunk yahoos spilling drinks on me or worse. I'm leaning towards dark jeans, white OCBD, black peacoat, black bluchers, and the aforementioned red ski hat. Or maybe I'll wear a Santa hat and look even more ridiculous.

Go to a Wal-Mart, Target, etc. in Atlanta and pick up a Falcons t-shirt. Throw on whatever sweater you have over it and some jeans.

He will stick out like a sore thumb at an NFL game if he goes dressed like that. If it was a UGA game it might be another story. I would suggest to the OP to go to a local TJMAxx and pick up some Falcons gear. You should be able to find some and it should be cheap since it is so late in the season. Just blend right in with these guys.

I would suggest you go all out and wear a Falcons helmet to the game!!!

The only rule to dressing for a foorball game is to wear something that represnts the team your rooting for to win, also something casual jeans or something people to tend to get to dressed up for sporting events.

Your proposed outfit sounds fine. Mostly you and a little bit of them. A nice comprimise.

Honestly, no one is going to give a shit one way or the other what you're wearing, as long as it isn't the Bills' colors. Just try to wear a sweater/shirt or something that is red or red/black. Avoid blue, obviously. I probably wouldn't wear my best shoes either...

Ha... that's the Braves. Edit: The Santa hat is a good idea... Black suit, red shirt, black tie, Santa hat. Prepare to be invited to the owner's box.

Cashmere sportcoat with pocket square. Trousers optional. But seriously, a grown up can still wear jeans and a t-shirt. Sure there are some here who say they will never wear jeans or that they would never wear a t-shirt, but whatever. You don't have to dress like PG just to go watch a game. I imagine anything goes. A button down casual shirt, cotton jacket and jeans or khakis should be fine.

Depends on your seats... Like say at Yankees stadium, the box seats or the dugout seats can be found full of old men in suits with baseball caps, whereas the rest of the crowd represents the above picture. Southern Trad would work if you had incredible seats. Otherwise, yeah, find some jeans, find some sneakers, throw on a red shirt (or better yet, black and gold) and go yell "go Steele-Falcons I mean." you'll go far.
