Paging CONNEMARA (broadway shows)

Conne,

Let's put our differences on hold for a moment. I needs your halp.

Need to buy my parents tickets to a bway musical. And I need to buy them in the next few hours, before Xmas. We've seen a lot of the usual suspects (ave q, ragtime, les mis, phantom, good co, chorus line, springtime, chicago, mamma mia, Rent, 33 variations, producers).

However, as I may have to join them, I'd rather not make it something super queer like Jersey Boys (seems queer) or Mary Poppins (how can this not be queer) or the Lion King (kiddy). I will trust your recommendation here.

I was thinking A Little Night Music...is that too queer? Wicked seems like a dumb premise, but correct me if I'm wrong. Can you give me some classic recs that received positive critical reviews? Having a decent soundtrack would help...so musicals > plays for the most part here. Thanks.

I'm not Connemara (thank God) but I've been to Wicked. Not on Broadway, but in Chicago. It is fucking legit dude.

^^^ Thanks. Also considering Billy Elliot. A friend just told me Jersey Boys, but it just seems like a gayer, lamer Jersey Shore...

If such things can be considered gay (vs heterosexual?) I would say ALL musicals are gay. No exceptions.

If they've never been, go to the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City. I was there the other night and it was a hell of a show. Two for one deal right now. Or West Side Story.

Hottest show right now is the revival of "A Little Night Music" with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury. It might be sold out though. "West Side Story" and "South Pacific" are still running and it's tough to go wrong with shows like those. BTW, Send in the Clowns is in the ALNM score. Old folks love that song.

You realize that no matter how you pose the question, Conne will recommend the queerest show there is, right?

That is what worries me.

It isn't a queer show though. ALNM is an elegant, poignant show if staged correctly. This isn't La Cage aux Folles or something.

My god I have seen 15 of the shows mentioned in this thread and have tix to a 16th in January (South Pacific). . . not sure what to make of that! Go to Wicked.

Mary Poppins is a pretty good show - I was certainly surprised.
