Really!?! Why do people like to claim communal memories as if they own them. This movie looks good. I would prolly enjoy it far more than I would Avatar or that Last Air Bender movie or any other blockbuster high on itself and low on humor.

maybe they shoulda called it the kung fu kid, but i guess they really wanted to stick with the title since its a remake
but that aside, plot makes no sense, asian kid would never bully a black kid, even if he did know karate
oh, and i knew it was gonna suck when i saw the kid training on the great wall of china

I'm not sure what you mean by "communal memories". I'm pretty sure that someone seeking to financially capitalize on something fondly remembered from my formative years is open to criticism.

So honestly no here thinks that the "karate kid" monicker will be saved by adding a line of dialogue in the movie where some antagonist says something like "so who do you think you are, the karate kid?". Is a shit fit necessary every time a movie from the past gets remade and incorporates elements intended to connect with its contemporaneous audience? Im 30, if they made the Karate Kid movie for the first time ever now, I wouldnt be the intended audience anyway. The only way Hollywood could rape anyones childhood is if the Weinsteins got in a Delorean, went back to your 9th birthday and raped you.
