Background Music.

I loathe the notion of Background music. I am not referring to something like Brian Eno's Music For Airports, which served a specific intellectual context, but more like people leaving on say, Norah Jones on their tinny computer speakers to do the laundry. Tangentially, I also hate walking around with an iPod on, headphones stuck in the ears. I've tried this before and I simply couldn't concentrate on anything. Even more egregious are those who walk around with an iPod on, and only one earphone in their ear, the other one dangling annoyingly like some loose thread. I feel personally violated when I see this in action.

I agree with this.

Very much so.

Especially when they try and talk to you in this way. I always feel like ripping it out their ear and yelling at them to fucking pay attention.

I wonder how those useless bastards even listen to music with that kind of approach. Those are probably the sort of people who are the ideal market for overly compressed Nickelback CDs.

I'm listening to music while doing laundry right now, but for me it's Radiohead and Emerson Lake and Palmer on vinyl through a 600W 5.1 system. And I'll be walking around with an Ipod today because I'm headed to the airport. Are these acceptable exceptions? (Ambient 1 will, of course, be on the playlist)

I hate walking around with music on. I find casual music listening to be an uncomfortable experience.

I believe the only situation it is acceptable to listen to music is at performances that require the audience to wear a tuxuedo.

You don't listen to music when working out? Or while working or something?

I wish there could be some kind of theme music that plays whenever I enter a room, or whenever I'm walking around, to make it a little more dramatique, give it a little more purpose.

On the contrary, such narrowness of opinion is rather plebeian.

I literally hate people who wear one iPod earphone.

Well, most of my friends are snarky straight males.

They have the bitchiness of homosexuals, but none of the offensiveness.

I am a critical listener not a casual listener.
