Anyone have a colonoscopy, I am prepin right now and the stuff you gotta drink is horrible!!! I have had only 4 glasses and fell like I am going to puke... plus I am already worried abot dehydration.

What makes you dehydrated? is it the solution itself or going to the bathroom so much?

Both. If I were you, I'd stay very close to the bathroom. You are dealing with the worst part now, the actual procedure is amazingly painless. Good luck!

my dad had to do this while back, he had to drink like a 2 gallon mixture within an hour or something and started throwing up later. that was the definitely the worst part of it, later he was heavily sedated for the actual procedure, and was released from the hospital that day but was still groggy the whole day.
fortunately it was negative and he is fine.

thanks, I am about 1/2 way done with the liquid and cannot drink anymore, makin me feel like shit (no pun intended).... horrible cold chills, bloated, dizzy, headache... prob. gonna take my chances and hope that 1/2 of the solution was enough to do the prep job.

I had to have one done (they told me to come back in 32 years for my next one) quite early to rule out any possible colon cancer, but my GI doc (one of my dad's buddies) gave me a set of essentially salt pills to take every 2 hours or so (i don't remember the time points) the day before. The result was still the same, but didn't have to deal with the gallons of liquid intake. Ended up being negative, which was good, but the prep was definitely the worst part of it. The next morning, I woke up completely dehydrated, and the prep nurse had to search to find a vein that wasn't collapsed for the IV. Sorry about the liquids, and they told me that i could intake any liquid that was clear... so if that would make you feel any better, go for it. The prep is so your colon is clean when the doc weaves the scope through there. The closer you follow the prep, the faster/safer the actual procedure goes. Good luck!

I heard about the pills but lots of bad stuff, easier to take but more risk of problems, i.e., the collapsed veins. I got a bottle of magnesium citrate which they said I could use instead if the solution was too gross, I may switch over to that in a few minutes.

The worst part is the actual prep, just drink plenty of water/anything to stay hydrated that is okayed by your doc.

If you are given the the cocktail of drugs that I receive,d the procedure is cake, I dont remember a thing and woke up with zero pain or discomfort.

You must to ask for reach around!

I used the salt pills and laid in a supply of baby wipes in case things got too "raw", which fortunately didn't happen. Seems like I was able to drink clear liquids and eat non-red jello during the prep period, so I didn't have any real problems other than the annoyance of having to use the toilet.

Like everyone else said, the procedure itself is easy (the most peaceful sleep I've ever had) and you won't remember a thing. Don't sweat it.

I woke up thinking the procedure hadn't been done when in fact it was over. No pain or discomfort whatsoever, and a very pleasant nap. I now understand why Michael Jackson thought this was a good way to get to sleep.

Prep tastes SO bad. Cleans you right out! Procedure is a breeze. A little chill pill. Watched the whole thing on the monitor. Not usually my thing. Great chat with the doc.

Alright, I hav had it, think I am calling it quits....

kinda of a sick question but how do you know when your BM's are "clear"? from researching the web it seems by "clear" they mean yellow water (because of stomach bile you cant actually have clear BM's...

I just want to make sure I am 100% cleansed enough so I dont have to do this hirrible thing again!

If you watch on the monitor you will agree that it's shitty TV.

Do all the prep fluid you can as any "obstruction" only limits your Doc's ability to see. Try using a straw to suck the prep fluid beyond your taste buds.
