Roasted Unsalted Peanuts - Effect on Weight

Gents,

I discovered unshelled unsalted roasted peanuts while on vacation in South Carolina in September 09. Since then, I quite easily consume an entire bag a day (or close). Judging from the nutrition data on the package, this would suggest I easily consume 3000-4000 calories on peanuts alone daily.

Strangely, I have lost perhaps 10lbs since I began this habit. Unshelled roasted Peanuts can be quite addictive. I also noticed that I'm never hungry or lethargic, in contrast to the numerous low carb diets I've previously tried.

However, it seems after losing almost 30lbs since May 5th (my birthday and resolution date), I've hit a plateau and wonder of the excessive peanut consumption is holding me back. For some perspective, I am 6ft tall, gone from 200lb (Jan 09) to 170'ish (Dec 09), 38" chest and 29.5" waist and I'd be just fine at 165lb (considering I've spent enough on tailoring an existing wardrobe to commision 2 Bespoke suits from Anderson & Sheppard)

Pls comment

Maybe you've substituted away from unhealthier snacks. Or maybe you have to run ten miles each way to get to the peanut stand? Did your lifestyle change when you started eating them?

3000 peanut calories is about 2500 calories of fat. Thats about 5lbs of fat every week. That can't be good.

What about it?

I have to admit, it might have induced some constipation (which I dont understand as Peanuts are high in fiber). In any event, my wife is a GI and had to manually go in to get things moving again

That still does not answer the question, how is it that the calories dont stick? I've read several reserach papers which conclude that based on a recent study at Notre Dame, a test group which ate an unlimted amount of peanuts did not show any appreciable wieght gain over the control group.

The results suggest that it may just be that peanuts are not fully absorbed into the body while at one being very filling, hence reducing intake of calories in other forms. The tests were still alrgely inconclusive but it was clear that there were calories that could not be accounted for by weight gain.

I do not recommending feasting on the stuff (as I do), but for those trying to shed pounds, the Notre Dame study might be onto something

Try eating them with the shell on. That'll make you crap more, and faster than any laxative on the market. That should help you shed some pounds.

Eating several large servings a day of peanuts has been proven to stimulate the body's production of human growth hormone.

It will also cause numerous tonsiloliths, which will make yo breff stank.

Fiber will fuck you up unless you chase it with enough water. Most mass media "eat mo fiber" articles tend to gloss over that point.

You're right. Fiber without water will clog you up bad. And then after three days of nothing you'll shit out something that resembles an anvil.
