more annoying is posting ebay links of items and bumping it by adding stuff everyday

Ive been guilty of it, didn't know there was such a movment against it. I will definitely stop. I think in a thread where you are selling a replenishable item, it can be warrented. With the cashmere scarves Ive been selling Ive been running out of stock and getting in new stock often. Rather than PM 5-10 people who were on waiting lists (especially with the 60 second response time) I find it easier to post the announcments in the thread. Same with sold out items. I find I am covering all my bases by updating the original post, and replying. Ive had lots of people PMing me about sold out items that were clearly marked sold out in the thread, but I never made a reply.

Here are J's rules for posting, which are pinned at the top of the B&S forum. It clearly states that SOLD updates are to be done by edits to the OP. Also, that the ONLY exception to the no bump rule is for price reductions. Why is this a debate?

My personal feelings have always been that, to be consistent with the general policy of the forum (which is in stark contrast to somewhere like SuFU), bumps to announce that items have been SOLD should be prohibited. However, this point was argued back here, and as I recall the general consensus, it was determined that SOLD bumps in multi-item threads were OK, so long as they didn't happen more than once a day.

SOLD bumps in a single-item thread, of course, are pure idiocy, and should result in a banning for sheer stupidity alone.

im pretty sure he locks the thread if he sees sold bumps but the fact is he cant click through every single thread in b&s...

I was unaware that J had amended the rule. In which case I hope the sentiment of the forum clearly states that they should be banned. My argument is that SOLD posts accomplish nothing but moving the thread back onto the front page. You might as well just post "bump" the way people used to do. Editing the OP tells people the item is gone. Why does it need to be restated in another post?

That's why we need to start reporting them when they occur.

I've been guilty of this, but only because I've seen the bigger names in this forum do it and I can't compete with the volume knocking me into oblivion. Not naming names, but I also don't like the "eBay auction ends in 2 days! Ends in 1 day! Ends in 1 hour; prices still low!" bumps.

I was guilty of sold bumping. I didn't realize it was a problem until I felt it a good idea to re-read the rules. Needless to say, I stopped. I don't mind letting the public know that you've added items though. Would opponents of this idea rather the seller create a new thread?

I think a way to solve this would be to have more categories in the B&S section. It's a bit hard to navigate because there are just so many items for sale.

What about having sub categories for Pants, Suits/SC/Blazers, Shirts, Shoes, Accessories (socks, cufflinks, hats, etc). Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea - but just realize that from the sellers point of view he must now manage multiple threads.

I agree, there is an actual e-bay thread that if I list something on there I put it in that thread. If I'm looking to buy something here I want to buy it through here not e-bay.

If you oringinally post it here then move it to e-bay use the post edit and show it as such, the same as if you sold it.

I agree with no sold bumping but I also propose we also lock/delete threads where the seller does not mark an item sold and abandons the thread/all pm's despite having been online. It's not fair to the buyers who spend the time to bump the thread and it's not fair to the sellers who have their threads pushed to the bottom because someone doesn't want to mark their items as sold.
