Anyone familiar with Taipei and what shops are around here and worth checking out?

So far brands/shops I've spotted here are Martin Margiela, Moma, Viridi-anne, Julius, Lanvin, Theory, Issey Miyake, and few others I can't recall. Haven't seen any style-forum approved denim brands yet. But selvedge/dry denim is pretty common here I've seen quite a few people rockin the selvedge cuff.

Also, since when did AX make dry + selvedge denim? (saw it for $200, but everything here is overpriced)

i said i wasn't going to post, but

+1 on this. heading to taipei in two days. i'm more interested in things i can't get in the states. would like a must eat at restaurant recommendation and a best pmt recommendation and i'd like to try some choudoufu.

Taipei is a good city. I've spend considerable time there for the past three summers, doing language courses and partying. For shopping, basically, go to the big malls unless you've got a local to guide you to some hard-to-find stores. The Sogo's are nice, the 101-Mall is good as well. Wouldn't really know about the denim's, not really into that. For food, try the XiaoLongBao (小龍包) in the basement of the Sogo (the new one, above the MRT-station). If you're going there, just follow the crowds because it is pretty populair. But for the real Taiwanese Experience, go to the nightmarkets. The one in Shilin is awesome, you can get there easy by subway. They'll have your smelly tofu there, although I don't recommend. Try the pink sausages though, they sell them everywhere. What's PMT? For a good night out, look in the 101 area (around "Warner Village"). There are some major clubs there: Room18, Spark (in the basement of the 101, pretty cool), Lava to name a few. If you like to take it easy, or easy at the beginning of the night, go to Brown Sugar, or the bar of the Grand Hyatt (both Jazz clubs). Let me know if you have any other questions. Din Tai Fung in Sogo Shilin night market National Palace Museum. 8000 years of Chinese history. One of the largest collections in the world. Zhong Xiao east district is the younger trendy area. Thanks. Yea I already been to the 101 and sogo. Plan on goin back though.
Any idea what the normal club dress code is like here?

I heard of take5.. must have been when I google searched some brand a few months ago..
Actually I think there's a take5 in japan too

well.. found the take5 store.. but it's closed on a monday lol.
Let's hope their prices aren't marked up 100% like everything else here.

I saw rag&bone / nom de guerre / jean shop , at this one store and prices were twice that of contextclothing but 30-50% off so the were just a bit over retail lol.

There are some nice lounge bars/cafes on An-ho Road, Section 2 (and a Carneiges)... But mainly catering to the ex-pat community. Also a little shopping mall with a great International Supermarket and a few designer stores but the mark up there is silly. Bali at the top of the subway line is nice too - if you like the local erm Seaside/ex fishing village ish.

+1 It's Taipei's Shibuya. Little maze of back streets but some great cafes/funky lil bars and stores where you can pick up flyers for clubs etc... Friendly folk there too. Enjoy.

i thought take5 was hongkong or something? guess not. pmt = zhenzhunaicha = pearl milk tea oh and chashaobao recs? i want some legit chashaobao that i can compare nyc to. omg. -_- chashaobao. and choudoufu? is there a famous place or should i just eat something off the street? and peking duck? please?

for chasaobao find one of those stands in the sidestreets where you see people lined up. Those are usually the good ones.

Let's talk about food instead... the clothing here is ridiculously marked up to the point where a sale wouldn't even drop it down to retail.

taipei is the last place I'd go to shop, prices there aren't worth it. but Taiwanese food is quite good as long as you know someone who could take you around. funny thing about going out drinking though, the Taiwanese love to mix their scotch whiskey with water until it has the color of jasmine tea, and they serve it with a sauteed vegetables, peanuts and steaming hot soup.
