Starting strength has ruined my deadlift lol. Dropped it back to 80kg from 105. Legs have been constantly sore since starting, have added 7.5kg to squat so far in 3 workouts. I hope my arms start growing on this, people who dont even lift have bigger arms than me after 9 months lifting and eating. All im doing is 3 x 8 curls twice a week in addition to the program. Gonna be drinking plenty of milk probably half gallon and just trying to pack on size, fuck it id rather have some fat and be able to lift heavy and have decent arms.

seriously, those are ridiculous. 225lb push press is something i would consider beastly. 225kg... damn. OL is so badass.

stinger: the less you worry about your arm size, the more they will grow. just worry about squatting and deadlifting, and post some vids up of your dead if youre that concerned about it.

also, just picked up a full power rack locally off kijiji for $100. excellent condition. nothing fancy, but 100$ for a full rack is fucken ridiculous. the dungeon grows...

Damn I wish I had space for a rack at home. I could throw it in the backyard but I would never exercise outside in SF winters.

What does it take to snatch that? Probably some good 14+ years of lifting with proper coaching and probably chemical assistance as well. How do you get into that, well it's just a matter of finding your local club/gym and signing up. Not that there is a myriad of guys to choose from, unfortunately.

Dude, don't take this the wrong way but you're asking questions like "how to deadlift"... "how to squat" etc. If you want to get into OL, that's great, maybe you should find a good coach and get a PVC pipe. The dude you saw might have been doing a romianian deadlift or a stiff-legged deadlift (or his DL technique just sucked), anyways it's pretty good that you're feeling the dl in your legs, not your back, that shows you're using your legs. You can try keeping your shoulder blades 'down and back', but when the bar gets really heavy your upper back may round a bit. This is fine as long as you keep your lower back extended. If you feel your weight shifting way too much forward it may be that you have the bar set up too far from your shins. You can think of the bar separation as squeezing the bar from the floor, push with your legs and kinda sit back.

thanks TrH, i am just being overly ambitious i guess. saw some dude do the OL, smaller than me but much stronger (huge back). looks like a great work out but i should get my basics down first. i think i will wear chucks the next time i deadlift.

Yeah, a gym membership for a year is about the same as picking up a used rack.

I didn't want to discourage you, just that imho a coach is really a necessity. The learning curve is also steepened a fair bit if you don't have the basics down pretty well first. Just keep grinding those lifts out man, I'm sure you'll learn the movements pretty quick. If trouble arises, just poast away ITT.

Jelly of the Eleiko plates. I know they're not really any better and for powerlifts I don't really need bumper plates, but they just look really cool to me. Kind of like candy. Stinger I know this is against the usual advice, but I've put on quite a bit of size on my arms doing bro workouts. I do preacher curl EZ bar drop sets with 8 reps per set dropping down from 12.5kg per side to nothing going down at 2.5g per side per set. Yes it takes long as fuck, but you get a mad pump in your arms. Also as you said eat fuck loads, doesn't need to be clean. My arms are looking pretty good even though im carrying a fair bit of fat. Once im 200lb, which probably won't take too long, around 185lb im just gonna cut down to like 180lb.

On top of this, if you want tips, take some video of you actually doing the lifts. It's easy to say "Do this and that" but when someone can tell you "at the bottom of your stance your butt is too high" that's more meaningful.

I swear im gonna quit power lifting just because of the fucking annoying pricks at my gym who do it on Saturday with there fucking multiply constantly walking up to me and giving me advice
1. Don't give me squat form advice when you can't squat because you fucked your knees doing your squats.
2. I don't care about your opinion on box squats, I like them, I don't care you don't get to use a box in competition, Im not competing if you didn't notice by my 90kg squat
3. I don't care that my hamstrings are bigger then my quads, I like hamstring work
4. I don't care that preacher curls aren't gonna help my deadlifts, bench or squat, they'll help me have bigger biceps
5. I don't care that no top level deadlifters use a sumo stance, I do. Im not changing to conventional just because some russian man does. I'm not aiming to be world class, Ill probably just try to get to 180kg and then stop so I don't have to deal with having messed up joints.
6. I don't care that I have a slow deadlift, I'm picking up a lot of weight its not just gonna fly up there.
7. I don't need to do lockout assistance, I do not have a weak lockout, I have a weak deadlift, Im doing my work sets at 140kg, I don't need to do anything, but deadlift.
8. I don't need to do pavlov presses. Congratulations you do an ab exercise with a russian name in it, your clearly superior
9. No my lower back isn't bending, my upper back is and I don't give a fuck about that, I'm wearing a belt as tight as I possibly can, my back isn't bending.
10. Im not gonna wear a singlet when I workout, I don't care that im not gonna wear sweats and a T shirt during a competition.

I'm not even asking for help from them theres this big fucking group of them who because they're such hardcore powerlifters feel they have to occupy the only power cage and bench inside it instead of just using one of the many benchs. I don't mind getting advice when I ask for it, I do mind people walking up to me and giving me point whilst im in the middle of a set of squats. Recommendations for body building split so I don't have to deal with these people?

have you tried the silent blank stare response? people will stop coming up to you if you stop responding to them. it might make you "that guy" at the gym but it already sounds like you are to them. i dont see why you would need a bodybuilding routine to get people to stop bugging you. i think you have the worse case of routine ocd in this thread laugh.gif
