Random health and exercise thoughts - Page 512

Worked high reps today with a tri set of lunges/good mornings/seated calf raises. By the third set I could barely do the good mornings because my legs were shaking so much. Did those cable pullthroughs as well. Man, after 5 other leg exercises in a row, those make a damn good finishing set.

Started a new summer workout last week: going strong so far. chest/arms on monday, 2.25 mile run on tuesday, back/shoulders on wednesday, run on thursday, legs/abs (legs are iffy due to the running) on friday, and run on saturday. Sunday break. Trying to get back into shape, which I've been saying forever. All I have to do now is class from 7 to 9:30 (PM) monday through thursday and 10-3:30 on saturday, so I don't have an excuse not to. I can't wait to get into the best shape of my life. I've been "trying" to lose fat for a while, but I think I'm done trying. I'm going to make it happen.

I started my cheat day tonight. Four donuts and a lot of homemade hummus (with pita chips) and I think I'm already stuffed / gross enough that I'm considering just eating normally throughout Friday.

I feel like making love to this lacrosse ball after the wonders it's done on the knots in my muscles. I pined it against the wall and rubbed all the sore spots in my back against it. Goddamn, I feel like a new person. What's the deal with those foam rollers? Same concept? I may have to get one if it works even half as well as that lacrosse ball.

More or less, though the lacrosse ball is probably better for hitting specific spots. I would also advise looking into trigger point therapy. The handbook plus the thera-cane (check Amazon) rid me of the shoulder / upper back pain I bitched about for MONTHS in this thread. Seriously one of the best training-related investments I've made and it wasn't even a pricey buy-in.

My arms are supported by a sling around my neck, in a bent position. Can use wrists and fingers but have to be very careful as any twisting motion hurts big time.

Seriously, solved my shoulder issues too. Good stuff.

Also, sucks about your elbows stinger... this is the fun part of training; getting back on after you've fallen off.

So I was doing my front squats today and I saw this one bro-looking dude at the gym who was doing everything with a belt on, I mean curls and all. Anyways I ended up shooting the shit with him and it turned out he was an ex-powerlifter but he'd had some major trauma to his lumbar spine a couple of years ago, so now all compounds are off-limits. Man, that would suck ass so bad.

Injuries are I don't try to lift extremely heavy anymore. Whatever weight I can get to, I'll be happy. At this point I just want to remain healthy and strong w/o over straining myself.

currently, once a week of 12-14k calories for me.

once every 4-5 days of 6-8k calories if I want to get very lean. well, that's how I've done it in the past at least.

Someone on another board made a thread asking what we would all do if we couldn't lift anymore. I don't know man. I can't go back to being a civilian. Speaking of injuries though, knock on wood my shoulder is like 95%. Mini recomp really helped rebuild my top end strength, though it looks like I'm up a lb or 2 over the last 2 weeks. Back to the cut next week, hoping for 175 by August.

Cry and masturbate a lot. Possibly at the same time.

Think of it this way - Foam rollers are for broad based muscle relief. The lacrosse ball is for specific, targeted relief. IMO they are both indispensable. I'm going to roll on my right now.

Also looked into oly lifting clubs/lifting coaches in the vicinity.. to my amazement there seems to be almost none around here. There are a shitload of gyms here but just one or two legit olympic lifting clubs. The one I intend to join has no activity now in the summer, the next basic course starts in the fall and I will sure as fuck be one of the dudes on that class.

Guess the sport isn't exactly popular, eh.
