Maybe he wants to be super ripped ala Brad Pitt in FIGHT CLUB or SNATCH

He's just an average guy who wants to lose some fat. I don't think he has any interest in strength training or building muscle or "aesthetics".
So basically cut out the shitty foods and empty calories (soda and booze) and do some moderate exercise a few days a week (play ball or tennis, jump rope, walk the dogs every night etc).

Hes gonna be like 110 lbs. Thats not healthy. He should swap some fat for muscle.

I know this is a running joke around lifting forums but why is this laughable? It's not like everyone needs to be a goddamn powerlifter.

I said it for real, I didn't make any kind of joke... some people prefer to have below 8% bodyfat in a thinner frame... it is a matter of taste.

I'd love to look like that but I believe he was still around 175lbs in those roles. I look at pics of myself at 17 when I was 5'9" and 143lbs; I look like a skeleton in a skin suit. I think it has to be considered that this guy might have a problem

Average guy? 137 is not average. Especially if you think youre fat at that weight. Unless you have literally zero muscle, in which case you might look fat, simple because of a lack of muscle tone.

tbh I have no frame of reference for 5'7" and 137. It sounds small but idk really.

Looking at the numbers and graphs on the internet he's either a small framed guy with no muscle, or a medium girl.

^^This. Never understood this either lol. I'd say most girls would probably prefer the fight club body to the power lifter body.

I think the Brad Pitt thing is more about beginners not understanding lifting. It's them being told to lift if they want to look like him instead of doing pushups and going for a run afterwards, only to have them say "I don't want to look like Arnold" as if getting huge overnight just happens as soon as you pick up a barbell.

No, not everyone has to be a powerlifter, but if you want to look like a famous shirtless celebrity then there's a good chance some amount of regimented lifting is involved.

so how do I look like brad pitt in fight club and not a powerlifter if I'm already powerlifting

Do a cut

The other joke is that his physique in that was not that great. No abs, small arms, yadda yadda. Just good skin, good lighting, good posture, movie star swag.

I wish I had "no abs" like BP, really xD

In all honesty I think it is "all he has" that is why he is so overrated... because everyone want abs, abs, abs disregarding everything else (the average citizen I mean, not people who train regularly).

BP looks like he's going to be able to rep 225 in the bench there and his arms look around 16". That is much bigger/stronger than the average Joe and would take a while of dedicated weight training for someone untrained to accomplish. So I think the joke is that untrained people say that don't need to "bulk up" to look like BP from Fight club, but they are mistaken.
