IF isn't a diet it's basically just skipping breakfast

Everyone I know in real life who does IF is not big or has made any substantial gains since I've known them.

How is it starving you? You're eating 8 hrs of the day. Just not eating for the rest. It's not like the body is starved for nutrients...

For fat loss (or more accurately, weight loss) I see the the attraction to IF in convenience, eating IIFYM style and craveable foods. But for anybody trying to gain muscle or hold onto LBM during a deficit or improve performance i can't see the point of IF. Simple carb cycling works better, even keto diets work better. With that said the occasional fasting period has proven effective at regulating insulin.

Why wouldn't you hold onto LBM during IF if you're not running a crazy deficit?

Eh, for the purpose of maintaining size and strength I know a lot of successful lifters that have used keto diets with success, I can't say the same for IF or any of its variants (maybe "carb nite" or whatever it's called?).

If your goal is to simply lose weight without regard to where that weight is coming from (fat, muscle, glycogen whatever) then sure, I can see IF working.
