Random health and exercise thoughts - Page 3261

post #48901 of 57263

I feel like I got a lot out of my short (45 min) session yesterday. Did 6 exercises, but did db flat and incline bench as well as seated cable row and pulldown with lower weight at 15 reps a set for 3-4 sets.

It was tough, but I got 60lb dbs for 15 on flat and incline.

Then I did 'decline' pec cable flyes and some ab work.

Flexing my pecs makes them feel hella sore right now.

Yeah, but I'd like to reinforce the stats while learning how to play with the same stuff on R. I really like a wiki I found for stata though, but R is free and learning it would be handy for the broke life I have to look forward to.

I have a 3 columns of data, the middle column is non numerical. I want to extract all data with a specific value in the middle column.

Trying

Dataset[Dataset[,2]=='value']

first, convert it to a data.frame
then

whatyouwant<-data$secondcolumn[data$secondcolumn==value]

or in matrix format

Dataset[which(Dataset[,2]=='value'),2]

I've heard conflicting advice on this but how should I fix arm shaking during bench? Even when I'm holding up 50% of my max my arms shake. I was told to do general back and arm exercises but what specifically?

Perhaps its your upper back and lats. Are you using your lats(arching, tucking your shoulders, pulling the bar forward off the rack as opposed to pushing it up then forward) when you unrack the weights?

not sure, I make sure to arch my back and keep my feet tucked and push off slightly but I'm definitely just pushing the weights up and forward when I unrack. Just wanna know what muscle group is weak exactly and how I should work on it.

The way to unrack it is to imagine pulling down a lat pulldown bar down with straight arms while standing up. There's a couple videos on youtube that explain this well. Just did a quick search and here's one. Try getting the form down and see if it helps.

I would do lat pulldowns, face pulls and rows to work on my upper back and lats.

(I'm assuming you're using a data.frame.)

You're missing the comma.

Dataset[Dataset[,2]=='value',]

Or

Dataset[Dataset$middleColumnName == 'value',]

That unracking technique only works though if the hooks are sloped. We only have Eleiko power racks in my local PL club whee the hooks look like this:

@accordion

You say you try to keep your shoulders pinned back and down, but are you really putting your weight on the traps/upper shoulders? Are they fixed in the same position during the whole set?

It sounds like you are not tight enough.

Would help if you uploaded a video.
