Yea the pain generally subsides in a few hours, def not chronic which is why I'm not 100% freaking out about it. It's gotta be technique.

Is anyone here a) a 24 hour fitness member and b) know how to score a week's pass in a gym other than one's home gym? I have a week long road trip coming up (to Silicon Valley) and I have the basic version of the membership that only allows access to one's home gym. Can I sweet talk my gym or the other gym into allowing me to use their facilities? Or is there a reasonable weekly rate?

tips for weeklong trip 1. find all of the gyms in the area. 2. Go to one. 3. Pretend you're thinking about joining 4. workout. 5. leave. This should do you for a week.

I have a 24 member, but my membership allows me to access all clubs. Never used the score thing before. you might be able to talk your way through or you can download a sevenday pass to the the local 24 hours at your traveling location.

there is only one campus that never closes even if the ground splits and buildings fall into the hole. and that, i believe, is due to law students suing for having exorbitant fees and tuition costs and not getting every single minute of what they paid for, or something like that. the bright side is that i can get a good [exhausting] warm-up making my way to the facilities knee deep in snow.

not suggesting for you as each case is different, but i found it much less stressful on my knee (post acl op) to have a *slightly* wider stance and of course toes pointing out and up. i also asked for a replacement acl from a panther, not sure if i got it though.

That pretty much describes my stance perfectly, just feels natural. Admittedly sometimes one knee might bow in on a rep, so I think I might have some kind of side to side knee/leg stability issues

Rippetoe wants the feet to be aligned to the thigh as you go down to minimize stress on the knee - I think this automatically implies that the feet should point outward a bit.

A form video would help tremendously. How often do you DL?

^Check your form. The last two weeks I noticed my back was getting stressed more than usual. Looked over in the mirror mid-rep and my back was hunched over like a motherfucker. Gonna have to drop like 20-30 lbs to fix the form.

My undergrad campus used to stay open when the entire city was coated in ice. They shut down once when I was there and that was the first time in like 40-50 years. For them it was a combination of how impossible it is to make up classes and that the hospital was technically part of the school so it had to shut down when the school did. Bizarre rule.

I think foam rollers would be right on the money for recovery and such.
IIRC you're a decent lifter so I'll assume your problem is not related to lower back rounding... hard to say really. Are your hips high when you set up? The only thing I could think of (off the top of my head) was that if your back is close to vertical when you begin the lift, legs don't come into play that much and you end up hauling the bar up with your back.

IDK though, take this witha grain of salt.

my lower back never really healed from a month ago. i've been doing deadlifts once every week. bleah. no camera so no form videos. I think I got tired at the last rep and rounded the lower back.

i think i might focus on back extensions and ab work and hamstring flexibility. i should see a trainer for deadlifting form

I think you should take a good 2-4 weeks off from DLing. Not worth the gamble. Did you let it heal last time?
