@conceptionist i think our definition of bulking is different. Because you don't look like you've ever attempted a real bulk.

I never said it was an amazing thing and I damn sure wouldn't pay that asshole MB 1500 a month to tell me what I already know. Nor did I say I was expecting to gain muscle while in a 500kcal deficit. My point is IF & fasted training work for me, regardless of however much people hate Leangains/Martin Berkhan.

That may be the case. On my first bulk I gained 20 pounds in 5-6 months, so almost 1 pound a week. I'm aiming for the same right now, but I've averaged 0.75 pounds a week so far. Just increased my calories so to make up for it. I could prob gain up to 2 pounds a week and still not gain too much fat but I don't see much point in it now as all my lifts increase every session.

How long have you been training and what are your numbers and height and weight?

I'm not trying to be mean. The OCD way you are handling your nutrition is holding you back. If you decide to take one piece of advice from me it should be this one sentence: eat til it hurts, lift more than you think you can and stop worrying about your abs. I promise you if you follow that advice for a real bulking period (a couple of years at least) you will be a monster. I don't understand why novice lifters are in such a hurry to complicate things.

Thanks man. I don't know if you saw what I wrote first but I think I misunderstood you, hence my editing.

 

Yeah, I know I've been overthinking it. Well, its not necessarily bad to study lifting but it can cause paralysis due to being unable to know what advice you should take and what doesn't apply for you. Coming to a powerlifting gym was a big mind opener for me as it was apparent that none of the really strong and still decently lean lifters there gave a fuck about macros. They prob eat decently but not super strict and they just lift really hard and put their energy into that instead. Although it may not sound like it here, I am not as caught up in it anymore. I've found something that works for me and I have a decent plan for how to achieve my lifting goals. Like I've said before I'm gonna continue putting on weight until this summer-fall and get a coach when my progress stalls and I don't know how to proceed.

This April will make 5 years of me consistently lifting. In that context, my numbers are pretty horrible. I'm 5' 9", 211lbs, I bench ~3x5x235, squat 3x5x305 and deadlift 3x5x385. I'm gonna cut once my 3x5 numbers add up to 1005 (so 255, 325, 435). My 1st year I made good gains, but then I spent about 3 and a half years spinning my gears. 2 bad cuts that set me back and a year or so of zero weight gain, but also zero progress (under the auspice of "Leangains"). So I did what you suggested to conceptionist- I opened the calorie floodgates and the gains started flowing. So I'm not sure what your beef with me is.

My bulk has turned into a full fledged recomp. I think it's the cardio, but either way I'm pretty happy about it. Weighed in at 165 this morning, but I'm bigger/stronger than my previous 165, and one important change is my stamina/endurance has gone up significantly. I can hang around for 1-2 reps more than before, also feel that I push harder and for a longer period of time in the gym. Went back yesterday and cold pulled a 465 DL that I failed on Wednesday of last week which made me feel pretty damn good since I can keep my plan of hitting 500 sometime in the next 8-10 months.

My bench has always been incredibly weak compared to the other lifts. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but it looks like it's getting better. I've been putting more emphasis on upper body strength since I felt I was lagging behind. More chin ups, more pull ups, more plates raises, lots of body weight stuff as accessory work and I'm starting to see some results. Hopefully, I can hit a two plate bench comfortably in the next few months.

Can someone rec a bench video for form? I wanna make sure I'm doing it properly.

new bodyweight pr. 250 squat for 10 x 10 x 12. These high volume workouts are brutal but by the time i'm at 90% 1+ I feel like I'm ready to hulk to the fuck out on a set of four.

What did you do wrong? I feel like I'm getting weaker but I'm also not losing weight :(

If it was anything like my failed attempts it was being impatient and starting at calories low enough that plateaus are almost impossible to break through.
