But other than that, we're pretty laid back, if you wanna go to the gym or go down for a steam or something over lunch just let us know you're going. If you need like a week off or something, let us know a week or two beforehand so we know not to plan anything for you, and if you need to leave early or something just let us know on your way out."

He also left to go to the gym before me, and came back after me haha, he was playing basketball for 2 hours.

I still work my ass off, obviously. First in, last out every day so far. Was in the office until 8 or 9 last night getting stuff done (drinking a beer and working on an LBO model, lol). I gotta bust my ass so they let me stay on over the summer and/or give me a raise/benefits.

Don't worry when we move forward on the deals we're looking at I'll probably get a lot busier with due diligence, might have to work 50-60 hours a week. smile.gif

Seriously, though, they're super nice guys and set their firm up in a way so that they could have a great work/life balance and a ton of flexibility in their schedules (while still making a lot of money and getting a lot of business).

First in, last out is probably a good strategy if you are taking them up on their gym offer. They are tempting you with full freedom, but it's forbidden fruit.

40-50 hours is approx standard at my pe/mezz fund, more around busy about-to-close deals, but no one really takes a long lunch like that - most grab food and eat at desk

I would wait a few months before taking long lunches

also associates at the funds we work with are reachable almost around the clock via email - so fuji your mileage may vary at the bigger funds

Yeah yeah you guys are probably right. I couldn't get to the gym in the evening or go today which is why I did it so I'll probably stop doing that sort of thing. Still gonna have a beer or two when I'm staying late though. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Sometimes I think people put way too much emphasis on enjoying their work... All this do what you love, never work a day in your life bullshit, etc....

Frankly, i'd sit in a dimly lit room counting skittles for 8 hours a day if it afforded me the ability to live the life I want. Work to live, not live to work.

Or get a job you like that affords you the ability to live the life you want...

Spending 40 years at ANY conventional job is not living, I don't care what you do, finance, ibanking, teaching, etc...

I don't plan on working past 30, not in the sense of coming into an office for 40+ hours a week and doing some nonsense making other people rich.

This is not a good life Mark frown.gif Skittle counting gets old fast. On the upside... a 40 hr work week sounds long to me...
