Life gets much better after 30 or at least it has for me, but then again my 20s were nothing to sneeze at either. I'm in my mid-30s now and can honestly say I am more comfortable with myself and my situation then I ever have been. Enjoy the ride...

So today was supposed to be a day off. Got belt so obviously that didn't happen. Yesterday I had blasted my legs with max effort squats and was pretty sore today, but decided to say screw it and went and deadlifted.

Managed 455 for a double despite being no where near fresh and definitely had a couple left in the tank.

I think next week I might try for a 5 plate single.

Frequency can happen much more often than the conventional lifting wisdom hive mind states. Make a habit of it stirpot.gif

Guys, I need input on some lifting stuff I'm looking to buy:

Straps - cotton or leather?

Wrist Wraps - I don't like the look of all these patterned ones in weird colors so it's between Inzer True Blacks or Metal All Blacks. Anyone got experience with them? Charly maybe?

Oh, nice.

For some reason I thought you did a split with arms day, leg day, bench day, deadlift day.

Your deadlift and bench is higher but I got you on squats. I don't really max on deadlifts though and I only do one set since I think I would risk a burnout otherwise with all the other volume from squats and so on.

Stronglifts with accessory is pretty much what I'm doing too, since I started with ICF 5x5 (which is Stronglifts with accessory) and then modified it after what I think needs more work.

What accessory are you doing?

I currently have two days that I rotate A/B/A B/A/B style.

Today was workout A:

5x5 paused bench (competition grip - index finger on ring)

5x5 squats

3x6 paused mid grip bench (pinkies on rings)

5x5 pendlay rows

3 sets of BB shrugs, myo reps

3 sets heavy weighted chinups, then 2 sets bodyweight for higher reps

3 sets sldl

5 set abs

The accessory lifts rotate after what I feel like doing, so sometimes I skip the shrugs and switch the SLDL for GMs or back extensions.

My cotton straps work fine. Never tried leather straps.

Killed it at the gym today. Pigging out is paying off.

Also, I don't wear socks with my lifting shoes, I should really clean them but I enjoy the cheesy smell when I take them off, is that weird

I had leather straps. They tore. They were like fluffed lamb scrotum. I don't think I've ever felt leddah so sawf. The cotton ones are the way to go.

Grizzly leather straps. Once they break in, they're amazing.

Trying not to post a bunch of "Cool Stuff Seen at the Gym" (because I could literally post something everyday) but had to show you guys this one. Animal/Universal sent Dan a pair of 16lb buckets of whey. He leaves them out so the gym members can use them. They literally look like giant buckets of paint.

^ GAHHH! Please keep posting. Or start a blog or something lol. If I ever, ever, ever have even the smallest moment of doubt that my garage gym isn't satisfactory I'm gonna join up with you.

Off-topic, but it seems like my focus is shifting. I'm trying to find a happy medium between my strength and stamina/endurance. I'm very much a burst/sprint kind of guy and have never been good at keeping up my endurance. Decided to mix in... dun dun dun cardio and mobility stuff on every off day. Completely killed the stairs at the local uni. Tons of sprinting up and 5 step jumps to the top. Will probably have a big effect on my gains, but make me a better balanced athlete overall.

My gym partner went to Nepal for a week on a whim and has been sending me the best messages. That schadenfreude:
"Why the fuck didn't you stop me from going hiking?"

"My squat will either double or halve"

"I think I can safely say that, over the last fears of lifting, I have successfully eradicated all slow twitch fibres in my body. Because there is no way walking should be this hard. Most basic movement my ass"

"I feel as though I deserve hoards of adoring fans as I limp across the finish line tomorrow."

Bacon post away. That shit is awesome!

I need to figure out what's going on with my deadlift. I think maybe it's just that I'm pushing all my other lifts so hard by the end of the training week I'm too beat up to expect maximal pulls, still pulled what I did at the meet today for a double on my 1+.

Thats impressive.

I did two hikes in HK (one around The Peak and down to Stanley and the other was on Lamma Island). Both were pretty rough.

Called it quits halfway through the former and took the bus back to the city to eat some dumplings instead, lol.
