Very close to my house and cardio equipment. My work has free gym, bit longer drive which probably offsets the 10/month.
Also came with free t shirt. Got 7XL.
Trained at the OL / PL gym today for the first time.
Very different experience to commercial gyms like I'm used to.
When I arrived, two guys around my age were training. Recognized one of them from local meet videos online. One of the pulled 375 for 7, while wearing a singlet, deadlift socks and deadlift slippers. The other guy was squatting in compression shorts, rehbands and squat shoes. Not that the clothes and gear matters but it obviously shows that they're serious with their training and you don't see those guys often in other gyms. Meanwhile, some older men in their 60s or so were practicing olympic lifts.
A big dude came and started what seemed like his bench day. He was complaining how he felt out of shape due to holiday brake and being to stiff too arch is back for the bench setup. A while later he asked me to spot him for a an easy paused 440 . Apparently he lifts with gear so he usually lifts heavier
The place is not fancy at all and the changing rooms and shower are not particularly clean, but the atmosphere, people and equipment make up for it. Good amount of power racks, eleiko bars and plates and the dumbbells go up to 225 or something like that.
Gonna have a big meeting this tuesday for the local PLers. Gonna discuss the upcoming meets, the local team and lift together.
Very stoked about this place and my training for the year.
