That's the one. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=148036063&page=1

It's a good program nonetheless, which is to say, SL5x5 is a good program and it doesn't hurt to do some additional accessory movements.

I know that program hopping is bad unless you're completely stuck, but I'm pretty tempted to get on a 3x a week full body compound program. Ice Cream Fitness 5x5 looks like good mix with compound focus but high enough volume and some assistance to help with aesthetics.

Based on what I saw of that program, I don't see the 'assistance' exercises that'll help with your bench.

You might want to consider adding something like floor presses or lock out presses (depending on what part of the bench movement you're currently stalling at).

Anyone have a suggestion for flat shoes that feels ''solid and tight'' like oly shoes? I've been testing some shit to improve my squat and it seems that my oly shoes makes me tip way too forward. May have to go back to chucks but from my experience, they don't feel as solid on the ground as my oly shoes. Dunno, may be in my head but the oly shoes definitively made me feel I was cemented to the ground.

EDIT: Flat or lower heel.

PS:

Holy shit, strong:

Maybe these?

I could see those working, they have straps and all. I'd rather squat in those over vibrams, those new balances, or barefoot.

Thanks for all the nice words RHET'ers.

Can't wait to go back to training next week.

Going to run a 6-day a week volume routine for about 12-14 weeks.

Next meet is May 17th. 1675-1700+ @ 198. Let's do this!!!

More importantly when are you going to start pinning?

Not sure. Was thinking about something in 2014. Will only be test 500mg/week when I do.

I already do paused bench and heavy board presses with other tricep stuff like JM presses and CGBP. The way I see it would be that the increased frequency and more focus on the basic compounds would help me. This might sound weird but I'm not sure if I'm strong enough to even benefit from movements like JM presses. I would use a 3 day 5x5 just to get strong as fast as possible and increased freq is better if you can recover until the next session.

Anyway, squat session went good yesterday. Got 245 for a double plus some back off sets of 5 at around 85%

"Beyond Brawn", Stuart McRobert (general, good tips)

"Greyskull LP", Johnny Pain (nothing spectacular, but the program is very close to IFC 5x5 which you're running, right?)

"Maximum Muscle" & "Squat Every Day", Matt Perrymann (both are really good, but might not be you're looking for. Not strictly related to lifting. Covers other areas such as biology, neuroscience, philosophy, etc)

"Supertraining", Yuri Verkhoshansky & Mel C. Stiff (looks great. haven't started yet)

Some off Jason Ferrugia's work. His books are more bro-ey than scientific but there are some good stuff, especially his Renegade Diet.

I'm actually doing the basic greyskull workout with different accessory work.  I think I am going to make a switch to 5/3/1 or something similar soon, since linear progression with bench and press just isn't working any longer.

I switched to Bill Starr 5x5 last week plus accessory work. I couldn't keep up with LP while cutting but the medium, light, heavy cadence seems to agree with my body a lot better right now. My lifts are still low so I'll probably jump back on LP in a few months once I'm back at a caloric surplus. Just cut calories back a little bit again and added an additional cardio session per week. Kill me please redface.gif

Oh by the way - I just deadlifted 245 and I'm still going up by 10 pounds per week without any real problem.  Should I switch to 5 soon?
