I'm guessing so. Would have a hard time moving such heavy weight not doing so.

I understand on the way down, but it generally helps me to breath out on the ascent.

Looks like he is practicing the valsalva maneuver. "Swallow" the air, not just hold the breath in your lungs, and it provides a solid, tense core. Filling the diaphragm and creating a rigid core helps receive more support from belt and theoretically squat heavier.

Is that from the wide stance?

I was incorrect previously in generalizing the first motion should be breaking at hips. It all depends on bar position, and I perform low bar. But you are definitely too far forward on your squats. Your heels lift off the ground on a few reps (unless it's the camera angle). I've always read to "spread the floor" (press knees out) and drive thru your heels.

I have long femurs and I can keep my shins pretty vertical when squatting. It's a combination of wide stance and pushing your knees out to the sides, rather than let them drift forward.

When I stand up with the bar before I squat down, my feet are outside of my knees due to the wide stance. I initiate the squat by pushing the knees out so they line up over my feet and sit back at the same time. Kelly Starret explains the technique more in depth in his book.

You're a bit high and your balance is too far forward

Glad to see you aren't using the neck pad in this vid, but not deep enough it seems.

Well my stance and my technique.

Looking at your video, you need to learn to open up your hips so you can bring your ass into the whole instead of dropping your hammies into the hole. If that makes any sense.

Some people use the mental cue of spreading the floor or pushing back with your ass or sitting back or pushing your knees out. It's a combo of all of them kind of.

Ding ding ding, correct!

If I lose that tightness by letting out air in the middle of your rep, I'm all kinds of fucked.

When I'm at like 90% of above in squats my butt doesn't want to sit back and i usually end up too far forward.

That's a confidence issue.

I wish I knew someone that knew enough about dieting and water manip. I sorta want to cut down to 182lbs for my meet, that's 9lbs in a lil under a month. I wonder if Travis Mash knows enough to help.
You should be able to make 9 lb easily.
