Also how much stock do you guys put into muscle memory, if I haven't trained in about 8 days how quickly can I expect to get back to my former strength?

I do both flat and incline.

A full week off rest is recommended for every once in a while and might even get you some PRs. I had 10 days off recently and came back blasting all my lifts on deadlift day.

do you change your diet during your off week?
I do. I have a base diet that I try to match on training and off days. If I feel like I had an extra hard workout or don't feel like I've recovered enough on my off day I'll eat a bit more. On deloads I'll pretty much eat perfectly but up the fish oil.

Yea I hope so. On 5/3/1 deloads were easy to jump right back into after because the light / volume week would follow after. Curious to see what happens what I try to jump right back into 100%. Had a talk with some powerlifters at my gym and they said my squat workset on Friday looked perfect and they think I have a lot more room in my LP to go, so hopefully I can jump right back into it.

I've had 3 weeks off bench pressing and just came back to a pr on the db bench. 13x40kg, which im pretty sure is a pr, I think my best was 12 before. Thinking it may be due to the huge volume of db flys, pull ups and overhead press i was doing though.

You flat bench anymore? or just all dumbell?

It also may be due to you backing off the bench presses as well. Most of us don't take enough breaks from working hard.

Just dumbbell, I can't seem to get the form down on barbell bench. If I use nice powerlifting form I can't bench shit, if I use gym bro flared as fuck elbows wide grip I can put up decent numbers, but it hurts and I have a really weird bar path. Also seem to feel dumbbells better and it's nice not needing a spot.

It's definitely not from taking time off, my lifting has been very irregular since may. Once uni starts again it should go back to normal.

Yea, makes sense. Dumbell will keep your shoulders healthier too.

Turns out my bar's ring width is 85cm instead of 81cm. Powerlifter guy tipped me off to it and said I should double-check.

So I've been benching almost a full hand width past regulation for 1.5 years now... What I thought was pinkies on the rings was actually max width. Great news is that I'm much stronger at that width anyway! Time to bust out the angle grinder and mark my bar up.
