Further to the discussion of ab work and planks, here is a suggestion to make planks harder/more effective, so you don't have to spend as long doing long reps: http://bretcontreras.com/the-rkc-plank/

I tried it yesterday, it was pretty tough and I'll definitely be including them more as I try and ramp up some more consistent ab work.

I have also been trying to include a bit more oly work. Here are some clean and jerk reps from yesterday. If anyone has thoughts I'd definitely appreciate it:

I've started weighting them actually--grabbed a 25 lb plate and just held it on my side/back for 30s per set x3. Gonna go up to a minute and then grab a 45 lb plate.

Yeah, that's what I tried in the past and they're pretty good too. It may be a sample size issue, but I liked the rkc plank in addition - felt like different/additional muscles were recruited. Who knows, Im full of cognitive bias towards new things.

Dat feel when you reach the end of your gym's pussy ass tricep pull down machine (95lbs)

I think I'm gonna switch gyms if my wife stops going to this one. I swam at their pool once all summer (we live on a lake and have a complex pool) and the gym kind of sucks. Only bad thing is I like Gold's but it seems like douchebag central and they have a $250 initiation fee (!!!!)

It tops out at 95 lbs? Is that a cable machine?

Most cable machines here go way higher than that. I currently use a wide straight bar and do tricep pushdowns for 2 sets of 20 reps with 130 pounds, usually supersetted with curls. Sounds weird now that I write it out, cause my bench is not much higher than that.

4x8 for incline db press with 100lb db... feelsgoodman but left elbow isn't... also got in 85 lb db for 3x8 shoulder presses. I'm definitely making some good progress that I want to make. Also, weighed myself at 218lbs last night. But.... that was after 2 chicken breast, 2 burgers and fries, half a pizza, 4 eggs and a bag of gummy bears icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Try it with a TRX system if you have access.

the gym i had been using had TRX and it was surprisingly useful. I liked it for inverted rows and ghetto-GHRs.

you're not finishing your pull and idk maybe your ass came up on the 1st pull on some lift. also always recover from a jerk leading with your front foot. other than that not too bad

I'm doing about the same weight as you, but your jerk is miles better than mine.

I think we both have the same problem in that we often don't stay upright on the first pull and do it more like a deadlift than an olympic style pull.

I have a TRX knockoff, but hardly ever use it. How do you do the ghetto GHRs with them?
