Anyway, took him to the gym today and let him do some push and pull exercises to see what level he's at. He had never done any weight lifting at all before. Never benched, never done pull ups, no curls. Nothing. Obviously he had massive problems with form and overall control of the movements. Couldn't push straight up when doing DB bench press, wasn't close to locking out overhead on shoulder press and could only pull his arms halfway up to the waist on DB rows.

He's good with sticking to routine's though, and is a great runner and with bodyweight stuff as push ups and sit ups. I've teached him a fair bit about food, what to eat, counting cals, etc. I want to put him on a real lifting routine from the start, but he also wants to continue with the cardio. At least until he realizes he will get better results with lifting in shorter time.

I'm thinking about putting him on IA SPBR but on a two-split (he's still a bit sceptical about lifting and loves cardio), getting through the 4 workouts in two weeks. Will complement this with a fair bit of full body mobility work, since he really needs it. When he seems to have gotten the basics and form down, he will transition to the regular SPBR 3-split.

Sounds ok, or just put him on SS (he's kind of scared of the compounds lifts, though)?

2x a week with spbr plus his running focus is great, no reason why that won't work for a long time unless he does marathon distances

I'm an uninsured American, and when I got my blood work done for test and thyroid last year, it was $100 including lab fee. I don't know if this is the case in other states, but there was special pricing available where I went for those without insurance. Of course, they sort of biffed it and mixed up the blood testing. A week later, I got the results that showed my thyroid was a bit out of a whack, but my prostate was A-OK.

Uninsured sucks. I'm an independent contractor so no insurance here. My dad died of prostate cancer at a young age and his father also died of prostate cancer, shit sucks... glad to here yours was ok lol

shits dark but my good friend also had to watch someone he love die of prostate cancer. he had a scare, he's 38 and thought he had prostate cancer.. crazy story was that he is uninsured and broke as fuck, his brother is a life gaurd and saved this guys life at the beach while off duty. turned out the guy was one of the best gastro dudes in town and he checked out my friend free of charge as thanks. friend said he would have blown his brains out if he was diagnosed and I have to agree with him there..

Took this photo today, here is the difference that about a month and a bit of hypertrophy work has made in my quads

before

after

Inner quad getting more depth to it and the outer quad seems to flare out more. Am pleased with the results. Yes I took progress pics in front of my friend.

Have you checked out the Reebok Crossfit Oly? We have them in Manila, so you should have them in Singapore.

Decided to grind out an extra set of deads tonight and midway through the third rep, felt that awful "pop" in the lower back. Needless to say, I set the weight right back down and scooted off to a secluded area where I could mentally scold myself. Felt like good form on all the other sets, but I'm stupidly hovered over the bar on that last rep.

Back is aching, but I'm able to walk and all of that, so hopefully this is only a brief thing. Some of you may remember I had a similar injury almost two years ago going real heavy on deads. Hoping rest, ice, and work with the Thera cane and lacrosse ball in the coming days will heal me up.
