I do that as well and I think it's due to crappy flexibility.

Eason is right about it being primarily a result of tight hamstrings. It can also be a weak(ish) low back. What's happening is that below a certain depth, your pelvis rotates. This isn't a good thing, as it generally leads to some movement through the bottom lumbar vertebrae. Obviously some hamstring mobility work is in order, but in the mean time, see if you can squat without the butt wink. Play around with both depth and weight. If your mobility is not horrible, you should be able to get below parallel without the butt wink, even if you can't do a2g.

I butt wink too.

Oh well. ATG is awesome regardless.

Just devote more time to stretching and rolling.

No doctor, but the common statement is that cracking without pain is inconsequential.

True story, my knees have been crackly my entire adult life and lifting has largely eliminated it. If I have a squat session that is a little bit off (usually foot angle), it can come back a bit.

are you supposed to wear them while lifting or irl
post #24387 of 49493
Is lifting real life? I wear them while lifting / hiking / chores. They are a heavy canvas so it's sorta like how old school people would squat and deadlift in jean shorts for extra support.
post #24388 of 49493
oh serious. i dunno i wear 5$ old navy shorts, squatting in canvas shorts with a button closure sounds pretty uncomfy

thought you were a singlet kinda guy CS
post #24390 of 49493
I got asked to stop wearing the singlet at this community centers gym (probably because you can see a full outline of my twig and berries in them). Then I grew out of them anyways ; ;
