Saw a very good hip surgeon for my groin pain. Definite tear of the labrum which can be addressed with arthroscopic surgery, this was expected. Apparently, I also have moderate cartilage degradation in the hip which is not reversible save for a replacement. Pretty scary considering I am 28.

Thought you got an MRI but it didnt show a tear in the labrum, but they were diong some cortosol shots.

hip cartillage wear is quite common in athletes. happy to hear that the labrum is going to be easy to fix.

Hurt the groin doing squats. However, it is likely that I was susceptible to this injury due to a slight pigeon toe that I have had since birth. When I had an MRI months ago, they found the labrum was torn but we decided to put a cortisone shot into the joint to see how it would react. When the cortisone shot did nothing, doctor thought it might be a hip flexor issue (labrum definitely torn but not the cause of the pain). Tried rehabing that and a cortisone shot and it did nothing.

Now I am exploring surgical options and met today with a top hip surgeon that works on a lot of athletes. He believes that arthroscopic surgery will address the labral tear and they can also shave down the bump on my hip to prevent further wear on the cartilage (though they cant actually reverse the wear that has already happened). Recovery time is probably three weeks on crutches, two months PT.

^ Yea, most injuries are not really related to whatever movement was done at the time it happened. It's usually a life style thing that wears down the muscle / weakens the area then something happens to injure it. I was pigeon toed too! At least I think.. my Dad said I had to wear wooden clogs around for like a year, I still don't know if he was joking with me or not because he use to say I also had a tail that had to be surgically removed.
