To anyone who is running or ran IA SPBR at home... what other equipment did you need to buy besides a rack, bench, bar, and plates?

Dude was flexing for his gf on the leg press machine. He was all like look at me press 185lbs. She was all like woah omg how do you do that,  Haven't used the leg press in a while cz its lame, I asked the dude if I could work in, slap on 5 plates on each side crank out 10 reps loudly say damn that was easy, threw on another 2 plates crank out 5 more.  Dude was bigger than me, but looked a bit deflated as I walked back to the deadlift 6 plates.

nothing. pullthrus became RDLs, leg press became front squat, and pulldowns became pullups. db benches can become dips or another bench variation but oly db handles are pretty cheap and a good investment for a home setup if you dont have them already.

The problem is that my personality is about as mellow and laid-back as you'll ever meet so I just have a hard time getting "pumped up" and aggressive. While the adrenaline during a comp does help a little bit, my coach told me "You've gotta find something to get pissed off about." When I miss lifts I tend to get PO'd and aggressive, but in a competition I can't wait until I miss to get into that mindset.... I've got to be there from the get-go.

I wish I could slap you.

You know, for morale.

Another thing that works (for me at least) is beforehand, just go walk up to a wall/corner and just let out a blood-curdling scream/war cry.

You know the science of "if you smile, you'll be happy"? I think the same thing works for screaming/anger (at least in my exp).

Did some squats today at 60kg, with my heels on plates. Huge difference. Easy to stay upright, more stress on legs rather than back. So it looks like poor ankle flexibility is causing my form problems. Will get olympic shoes asap, and start working on ankle mobility as well.
Just remember that wearing oly shoes will not help w/ ankle flexibility.

What does? I think ankle flexibility is one of my biggest problems.
Knucks, im guessing you mean doesnt help the actual flexibility of your ankles? They do help compensate for being inflexible though, right? But i will work on stretching anyway.

+1

not like you want to use heavy weights to improve your shoulder flexibility and rotator cuff strength. Brb attempting my 1rm with a rotator cuff movement using 40kg dumbbell.

I did not think that the what I wrote was confusing, but yes, wearing oly shoes will allow one to compensate for a lack of mobility in the ankles
