Random health and exercise thoughts - Page 1259

I asked this a few pages ago but don't think I got a response and forgot about it. I just received my NASM-CPT study materials in the mail. Anyone here have this cert? Any recommendations on what else to study besides the text? I also bought Delavier's Strength Training Anatomy which looks amazing.

Recs?

Are you making an argument about satiety? Or are you making an argument about protein absorption? Because either way you'd be getting the same amount of protein. I'd choose the steak for other reasons, but I don't think an argument based on protein absorption effectiveness is valid.
Protein has like 4 kcals/g, so I don't really understand what you're asking? Are you having problems with being too full to intake your required protein?

i'm not talking about a capacity on protein absorption, like that only 30g at a time myth. i've always understood that a steady influx of amino acids is better than a spike of them and then nothing. whey digests very quickly, about 1-2 hours. steak digests slowly, over 8+ hours. i dont think there is a whole lot of muscle tissue being grown in 2 hours. im saying that yes, you are technically getting the same amount of protein in both cases, but the protein from the steak will be absorbed over a longer period of time, giving a greater benefit. on the other hand, if the body grows 60g of protein worth (or however much is in the shake) of muscle in 2 hours as opposed to benefiting more from that same 60g over a longer period of time then i am absolutely incorrect.

im not talking about meal frequency or anything to that extent - i think we've all learned that 8oz of steak is 8oz of steak, regardless of whether its eaten 2oz at a time over 6 hours or all at once. my point is that steak will be constantly leaching amino acids into your body over a much longer period of time. if indeed it doesn't matter how long a protein source takes to digest, then this is at the very least equal to taking whey with a greater potential upside if the body does indeed benefit from having a steady influx of amino acids like i am asserting.

either way, i think we're being pedantic - my point was that meat protein has indisputably provided better results than whey and whether that is a result of protein absorption or other factors like nutrition, no matter. though it is kind of funny how you are stressing eating meat on the basis that it is more nutritious after your adamant claim that everyone should be eating ice cream as a carb source as opposed to berries IIFYM. nest.gif

Lulz, true, I just told my g/f to carb up with a ton of frozen yogurt. I'm probably going to buy some to throw in protein shakes, good PWO carb boost. satisfied.gif

Well I currently have a job in an unrelated field that I don't really care for that much. I figure my next step is becoming self-employed, and I don't want to go back to school. I've been helping friends, family and coworkers for a really long time, just advising them and answering questions and stuff, and I've really enjoyed that, so I figured I'd get the certification. That way at the very least I'm not giving out wrong information, but also more importantly it's a field I can get into without going to school and spending tens of thousands of dollars and years of my life doing stuff I could learn on my own much faster. And it's something I can be self-employed doing, and get out as much as I put in, and set my own hours and terms, etc.

So I'm gonna get the cert ASAP, start training people ASAP, and build up a training business in my free time while I'm working my current job. Figure it's a small commitment, low capital investment, and low risk, so why not? If it takes off then I can do it full time, if not at least I have the knowledge and skills for myself and others, and some supplemental income.

Plus I'm training my buddy right now unofficially so I'll already have some testimonials, and by the time I'm ready to train I should be pushing like 6% bf and have like 20 more lbs of muscle so people will think I'm legit. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Since I've been biking everywhere I've added probably 20 miles/wk without increasing calorie intake. Coupled with just starting DC, my legs are pretty mad at me, probably a bad idea. brb pounding coconut water...

It's because Jews are terrible at sports or physical things in general. We've got so few athletes that even the mediocre ones becomes famous.

cool. about the same as our #1 77 lifter (who's moving up to 85 I'm told).

and its awesome you plan to compete, hope you have a good run and go 6 for 6. I'm tentatively thinking about qualifying and competing in the nationals before my 30th birthday, I don't have any delusions on how I'd place, but I think it's a reasonable enough goal to go for. I'm 24 so we'll see.

also had heart palpitations last night wtf is this shit am i going the way of aesthetic gods

This.

What's even worse is that I get my Step 1 score back today. So the question is, do I look at it and risk being miserable for a 30 hour shift or do I hold off and just be anxious the entire time?
