Man I wish I could workout in the morning. People that can get into the gym before work or school (assuming an early class) I have a lot of respect for. It comes with plenty of benefits like you've mentioned. I have to just drag ass up there around 6PM with the after work masses and stalk a bench press for 15 minutes before even being able to start my workout. As soon as I can shake these sleep issues keeping me up until 2AM every night, I'm going to give the morning routine a shot.
I'm up no later than 4:00 M-F to be at the gym when it opens at 5:00. I can count on one closed fist the number of times that I've wanted to drag my ass out of bed. However, if I didn't get it out of the way first thing I doubt I'd be going as regularly as I do, and the negative reinforcement is that I don't like the way I feel or (even less) look if I start missing.
It also helps that the gym is between my house and my office, meaning that I miss morning rush hour traffic.
Going to bed at 7:30/8:00 tends to blow, however that's why God made Tivo.
