Okay so the consensus is lift before sprint. The only problem with this is that I wouldn't eat my protein until more than an hour after lifting with this schedule. Not a big deal?

I don't eat my protein(or anything, for that matter) for approximately 5 hours after the end of my workout. happy.gif

Anyone have experience with sprinting working abs out? 2) After good cardio (sprints or steps) I'm usually pretty sore all over, but I often go directly to the gym and lift for 30ish minutes. As long as I get protein after lifting, this is okay right? I'm not doing any damage?

Few things (I'm a sprinter btw, training involves sprint intervals + weights + recovery workouts) :
- I would break up sprint and weight sessions if possible (I'm doing that right now, cardio in the morning + weights in the evening)
- For your 2 min rest, try light running around the track. Personally 2 mins is way too long, I normally rest for a 1 minute or less, especially with such a short distance (100m). Of course by the 5th sprint set your timing will be out of whack, but thats the point of sprint training.
- Sprinting is a predominant posterior chain sport, the soreness will be felt in your glutes, hams & adductors...yeah you need your core to stabilize your body, but its more of your lower back than your abs working.
- If you're worried about protein intake, take a little bit after lifting & before you start sprinting. Like a few sips, I normally do that if I'm feeling a little bit tired from lifting. Optimally, separating cardio & lifts would be most beneficial.

Worlds training began this week.  Have about 20 weeks or so to get things really dialed in.

Looking to go 626+ squat, 374+ bench, 602+ deadlift (raw - 181 open).  It's in Villa Maria Cordoba - Argentina.  Anyone ever been there?  I'm looking at possibly making the whole trip a vacation (get there 2 days early to deal with making weight and getting prepped for worlds and staying an extra week or so).  The only place I've ever been outside of the US is Canada when I was about 5 and Cancun, Mexico which isn't exactly a foreign culture so I'm really excited about it.

Also got a new pair of blue (blue blue not navy) pants from bonobos today in the mail (ordered with a $30 off coupon) and let me tell you they are the best fitting pants I've ever had.  Normally I have to buy things way bigger because of my butt and thighs and material bunches up or I simply rip the pants.  This pair feels great, super comfortable, and no material bunching not to mention a bit of extra room in the quads and butt and I was actually able to buy my waist size!  Definitely a site I'll be using more often.

what waist size

32/32 Knucks - they're a bit loose around the waist.  I generally wear a size 31 or so but they didn't have that so my general rule is to always go up a size instead of down since my weight rarely comes down enough to hit a 30 waist unless I'm making weight for a meet.

Good luck. My next meet is about 20 weeks out too and trying to go 550+/350+/600+ there in the raw 198s.

Still got a bit to catch up to you - especially your squat!

But if I hit those numbers there, it will be about 1.5 years in powerlifting.. so it ain't too bad I guess.

Just out of curiosity, why did you guys decide to pursue powerlifting vs. olympic lifting?

I got the game-day chinos, not sure if that matters.  My quads are around 26.5" at largest point around and my waist is 31" or so depending on fluid levels.  Hips are 40" if I recall.

Get at it man!  Yah I've only been powerlifting for a year or so now just have a background of D1 sports that helped give me a good base and my years as a strength and conditioning coach give me a lot of knowledge from training athletes that has carried over well in my own training now that I decided to be competitive again in something.  It used to be all about looking good with performance being maintained in my various sports disciplines (mainly rowing) and not so much about maximal strength.  I'm using this training though to see how it affects my rowing and those of my rowers I coach (220 of them).  So far it has really paid off with the kids I coach - looking to eventually write a book that I'm hoping will re-define how the US looks at training national caliber rowers if my test results continue to stay the course.  Most rowing coaches have a mentality of "weights don't float so therefore we don't use" and the strength and conditioning scene in the sport is extremely behind the times.  But I digress.  Keep it up and best of luck at your meet!
