I would like to do this in the future. What's your home gym look like?

High bar changes the weight to be more in line with your heel, so your knee has to work harder vertically. Low bar moves the weight further back so your knee experiences an "outward" tension when bent. For some people one or the other is extremely painful. Hard to explain without a force diagram describing the mechanics, but that's the gist of it.
I had a fuji-like experience at the gym today. 5'10~ 130-140lb dude was doing T-bar rows on little weight. The dude finished his set and pulled up his shirt and started mirin himself, clearly thinking he was cut like Brad Pitt from Fight Club. And then he flexed and had the "fuck yeah I'm buff" head nod. In the middle of the gym! It was very lols and wtf.

Yeah I understand, makes sense. I love T bar rows, definitely my favourite back movement.

I kind of like all the retards at my gym, its like a surprise not knowing what they're gonna do next, not gonna be as exciting training at a uni gym next year. Have also recently seen someone do curls with the wide lat pull down bar and someone tried to sell me the ends on his jar of protein. Was sad today because the group whose like leader dropped 130kg on his chest wasn't there today. It's kind of motivating having them there because if you forget that there using 1/ 8th ROM they look really strong.

rack, oly bar + db handles, #1,2,3 bands, plates, flat bench, stall mat for flooring. i can do just about whatever movement i want, save something like incline benching but im really not too concerned about that.

if you cruise kijiji you should be able to find a passable home setup for ~$500. mine was slightly more but i still got deals on stuff; my rack was only $100. i literally only have a 4x6' area to lift in but i make it happen.

I LOVED my campus gym. Would go at 11pm with my housemates and the place would be practically empty. Lift for stretch and lift for 35-40 minutes then cardio till close.

My current gym is pretty great, only 2 blocks away, but is less than stellar for certain crossfit workouts.

i go sometime after work, when everyone else is out of class. usually 6-630, huge clusterfuck.
if the racks are open its no big deal tho

+1

for the past three months I've been there only to squat maybe a handful of times. Glad I ditched it in favor of my OL gym. It was twice the money and maybe .01 the usefulness.

I'd love to lift at home.. an Eleiko competition set + bar, platform, squat stand and pulling blocks is all I'd need and I'd be set. If only I could dwindle away the €5k that'd take laugh.gif

also loled at the brewing shitstorm in the weight loss threak

It amazes me how much eleiko plates are. like $200 for a 25kg plate. My mate goes to one of the best sport unis in the country for a subject with 8 hours of classes a week. He has a monolift, eleiko plates, platforms, tonnes of cages and bars, the gym itself is 3 stories tall and just opened a couple month ago, it's a great facility. Apparently he doesn't have time to lift and just does cardio and 1/2 ROM bench press.

Feeling mad discouraged bros. I've only been doing a real routine since December and in that time gone from struggling with squatting the empty bar to squatting 135 no problem. But I try to add 5 pounds a workout and complete 5 sets, and hit failure on the second set of 145, and feel like a sack of turds. Squatting such a light weight makes me feel like a bitch. I wont be satisfied until I hit at least body-weight, and then 1.5 times body-weight.

Also, I'm on a cutting diet so maybe that has something to do with my plateau in gains. I weigh 175, and eat between 1,600 and 2000 calories a day.

Hard to gain whist cutting. Can't expect your squat to go up fast if your not giving yourself enough nutrients.

Yea.... so.... I think that might be your problem. I don't know how many friggin times it has to be said here, but if you're lifting INTENSE and pushing yourself HARD, you should double your intake to 3500 kcal and you will NOT get obese. Maybe a slight bit of cushion, but TRUST-- you will NOT become a doughboy. And for what it's worth, most women don't even notice the difference between when I'm in fat-ass-eat-everything mode or when I dial it back and eat how you are (aka like a bitch). However, I do notice the difference in how much additional weight I'm able to throw around from week to week... needless to say, eating more lets me move more. But if you eat like a bitch, you'll squat like a bitch.

You will be amazed how many retards manage to make it through to university. I never went to the gym at uni because with their "super start of year offer" it was something like £35 to £40 a month for 12 months, I imagine it'll be full of 18 year olds doing bench and bicep curls and getting injured though. If not just look at them for more than a second and they'll let you have it, students are very easily intimidated.

Yeah, but they'll be different retards. Its gonna be full of skinny fat chinese boys trying to look like some chinese pop star by doing crunches for several hours so they can white night some bish, not the 30-50 year old weird as fuck criminals from up north and black kids who carry massive amounts of weed in there bags and talk like this

"what you sayin after the gym blad"
"Man is on dat yam ting blad, shit is peng mate"

I am kind of hoping to be the most aesthetic maths student though, that'd be nice.
