I guess the progress in the beginning is going to be rather fast, as I've been lifting for some time (not OL, of course) so it's not a lack of power that's limiting the lifts. More likely it's my 3rd pull, which needs to get much, much quicker if I intend to snatch bw anytime soon. I'm told this is fairly common among guys coming late into the sport, i.e. pulling the bar way too high...

From what I hear getting to a bw snatch is pretty straight forward if you have your technique down, from there to about 1.2-1.4 bw things will get a lot harder and anything upwards of that will be insanely fucking difficult and you will need to have picture perfect technique and bearmode strength to boot.

More and more of the bro's at my gym have been trickling over to the squat racks recently. There's like four set up and I had to wait through a guy's entire routine last monday. Did Men's Health recently do an article promoting the exercise?

Did 5x2 with 35lb on the chin up today. Been trying to do them as fast as possible so I didn't go to failure on the sets. Even with just BW I still move pretty slow on chins so Im working on getting that faster. Can't wait for my belt to come, should get it on Tuesday, Im hoping to hit 180kg deadlift, 140kg squat, 100kg bench as my goals next year. Probably gonna pretty easy because the deadlifts only off by 10kg, squats off by like 30kg not sure I haven't tested my max, same with bench, but it should be around 20kg. Maybe hit 80kg on the overhead press, that'd be nice. Belt should help the squat and deadlift move a little faster.

Getting pissed off with SS. I've been on it 6 weeks, gained 12lb, but i havent grown at all in like 3 weeks, despite gaining weight. I had a slight growth spurt at first due to consuming tons of calories, put on 2" chest 0.5" arms 2" legs but those measurements havent moved since, and most of that is probably due to fat gain. Squat is totally stuck at 80kg, bench has crept up by about 5kg but for gaining almost a stone in body weight thats pretty shit. I dunno wether to increase the calories but im still gaining weight pretty fast, and im piling fat onto my ass while my upper body remains like a twig.

What are your BW and lifts?

I personally don't think you need to run SS for more than 6-8 weeks if your goal is aesthetics. If you want to GET PUMPED UP then you just need to be able to move decent weight.

I say switch to a 3/week split for a few weeks and see if you start getting the results you want. Keeup upping the weight every week, but slow the progression down.

HAve you corrected the technique issues that came up when you posted the video? If not, it can definitely be an issue in why shit is not moving up.

Im 177lb at 6'1, squat 80, deadlift 115, bench 55, OH press 42.5

I have been thinking about doing a split as its probably more enjoyable, but im just too fucking weak. I should be able to bench at least 70kg. And i want to get big as fast as possible, which is why SS appealed to me: eat big, lift big and pack on the strength and mass. Unfortunately only my legs responded. My mate just does some curls and bench presses and hasnt been doing it as long as i've been training seriously, no bulking diet, but his upper body has exploded. It seems that im busting my ass week in week out for little results.

Im trying to focus on technique which is largely why i havent moved up. Im sure i could squat 85 or more, but my knees would be coming in and i would be doing good mornings with my back. If i go down to say 65kg my form issues are solved, but it never gets any easier at the heavier weights. I've reset the squat once and i just havent gained any strength or ability to hold my form better at 80kg.

Im guessing since your quite tall your bench form isn't that good. Apparently a lot of tall people have problems with it, I did for a while. When your lowering the bar down to your chest are you keeping the weight on your traps, keeping and arch in your lower back ad pulling your lats together or are you just basically dropping the bar onto your chest. Using leg drive helps as well to get it off your chest. It wont ever be that high because your tall so your ROM is big but you should easily be able to get past 55kg with proper form.

Form is ok but not perfect, i find it hard to maintain that arch even though i know the position i need to be in. Easier if someone is there to unrack the weight for me, which is rare. Cant decide on hand position either, at the moment im using middle fingers on the rings on the bar. Before i was using pinkys on the ring.

Man the rest of this forum sucks but I'm glad to see this thread still trucking.

Just wanted to say, a holistic approach to lifting is so key.

I ended my cut and started doing deads and squats once a week again. Well, just deads, I kind of stopped squatting for like a month.

Two weeks ago it got to the point I couldn't even get reps at working dead weight (I have been a lot stricter with form, keeping hips low and all that).

I shit you not, I did squats last Saturday for the first time in a month and had crazy DOMS. But this past Tuesday I deaded my working weight like nothing.

So def do both, if you aren't already.

Big legs/butt and small/weak upperbody is a common complaint of SS. You could try doing something like GSLP which has 2 squat days instead of 3, and your final set on all movements is for max reps. GSLP also adds biceps work and bodyweight (pushups/chins) on non-lifting days for bro muscle.

Jealous of people who are insured and thus able to get an MRI without resorting to black market organ sales. I want to get an MRI on my back, but with no insurance, that shit is looking like a four-figure cost.

Stupidly tried to deadlift a few days ago because my back had been feeling better, but got that sharp pain midway through my second set at a fairly light weight. Pain was so bad that night that walking was difficult and I had to brace myself against the counter when I wanted to lean forward and take out my contact lenses. Back is feeling better, but there's still definitely an issue with it, so I'm just going to back off any type of movement that stresses the spine / lower back area.

Back problems even here where we have public healthcare are difficult to get taken care of, especially if you can't say "I injured it at this point in time". They try to classify it as degenerative (!) - which is what i'm sure a lot of insurance companies also try to do.

today i DL 205lb (5'10 +/- 150lb). I am pretty sure I can DL 225 next time. I did 3x5 starting with 135lb, 185lb, 190lb then did 1 set at 205 3rep (i wanted to see how the weight was).

seems like i am improving slowly. and i wear cons vs. nike frees days I squat/DL. it helps or so it seems

oh did i mention that my gym on friday nights is so dead. not a soul in sight except a handful of people. man people must have such a fun life while i am at the gym frown.gif
