All right. I'll ask my dentist about braces next time I see him.

Which brand/kind of teeth whitening strips do you recommend?

If you were seeing me, I'd probably do a combo of braces and either veneers or composites based on your preference. You'll also need surgery to take care of that frenum that's attached to your gums. That's causing the gap between your teeth because it's attached so far down on the gum. Invisalign might be an option but it depends on your bite. See your dentist for a treatment plan and price quote. FYI: if you plan to whiten your teeth, do it before the veneers/composites and be sure to wait 2-3 weeks before cementing/bonding. The bonds are susceptible to fail after bleaching.

Don't expect much results from over the counter products even if they cost $40-80 dollars. But if your staining is not bad, then 1-3 shades might make a difference. I hear more praises about Arm & Hammer whiteners. Dental whitening like KOR bleaching is one of the best solutions that's available.

Oh, never rely for medical advice on the internet, even if a guy who is replying to you is an M.D./D.D.S. See your doc.

I agree with my colleague, completely. I see a "Bolton (tooth size) discrepancy" in the photo you've provided - meaning that closing your upper spaces will potentially be impossible and will likely be unstable if achieved. I'm 99% sure you'll need some sort of upper incisor build-up ("widening") to get the functional result that an orthodontist will want and the esthetic result that you'll want. Ask your dentist for a referral. The improvement will be worth the money spent. (If you are by chance biting fully on your back teeth in that photo, then your case could be somewhat difficult; otherwise, yes, 2 years is a fair estimate for braces from start to finish.)
