Names cycle in popularity, Maya has been pretty prominent the last few years. My wife has been into having "baby play-dates" a bunch and I've run into 3 Mayas and a few of it's variations. Taya, Skaya, etc...All middle-class white kids.
come on, this is SF. you should name her Sartoria Partenopea on a serious note, my sister named my niece Annika. i didn't like it at first but it has grown on me. but Maya is much better, i'd go for that.
1. I like Maya - it is not clear what ethnicity it belongs to.
2. I would stay away from anything too ethnic for a first name
3. with my kids, we gave them somewhat ethnic names, and then very whitebread middle names. I would suggest the same, it gives them the option of being A. Janet Corleone as opposed to Anika Corleone. give your kid options.
4. I like a goddess who wears a skull necklace as much as anybody
