Thinking about getting the Droid. Any thoughts on it?

Edit: oops, fixed.

I'm waiting until next quarter to get one. The Moto version looks too boxy and the HTC version doesn't have a physical keyboard, which I'd perfer.

I talked to a guy at the Verizon store and he said newer models were going to be released early next year.

Got it. Love it. Glad I didn't succumb to the iPhone phenomenon. But, word on the street is that the Google Phone, aka Nexus One, will be out Jan '10.

Most recent info I've seen on this is that it will only have T-Mobile 3G frequencies. Also it's GSM so only T-Mo and AT&T (will work on edge).

Who knows if other versions will be made that are compatible with the CDMA networks.

Kind of weird since people were originally saying it wouldn't be locked to a carrier.

Yeah, apparently Google went to Verizon and was rejected (perhaps because it had already committed to Moto with its Droid).

This phone will put TMo on the map, hopefully their network can handle the extra data traffic. As for ATT, I think the phone will probably work well on their 3G network (I don't remember that it's Edge only, but that might be right).

Initially they were saying both but the last thing I read was this post over on Gizmodo which says Edge only on AT&T. http://gizmodo.com/5429490/googles-h...owser-and-maps

What's the web browser like? So far IMO the best browser is on the iPhone. If it's as good or better I'm game for a Droid.

I find it to be very capable. You can download an even better (free) browser called "Dolphin Browser" that gives the droid all kinds of added functionality, including multi-touch. But I don't find it necessary for me personally. The default browser fills all my needs. (I own a droid/ipod touch, and have used the iPhone, I find them to be all pretty equal when it comes to browsing.)

Cool. I guess I'll head down to Verizon and get me one.

Just bought one. Hopefully if anything that blows it out of the water comes out, it happens in the next 30 days.

Verizon was also the first phone company offered the iPhone. They turned it down.
