Can you New Yorkers recommend me a convenient hotel to stay at? My price range is ideally around $250/night but I wouldn't mind paying up to $300 if it's a great value. I prefer modern hotels versus older historical types. I'm planning for the last week of January. Thanks!

Affinia Gardens. Huge rooms for the price, quiet and excellent location [you're surrounded by locals and not tourists], and quick access to the 4 5 6 trains. Its where my family stays when they visit, but it took much wasted money at other places to find this one. Google it and read the reviews from others.

I'll book you any Starwood property you want at 70 cents to the dollar. Westin, W, Meridian, Sheraton.

Also check tripadvisor.com for the most up to date reviews for hotels. It is very candid and reliable.

Been here, found it randomly from some website. Really nice and great prices, been there a couple of times, never fails.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely check out Affinia Gardens.

Metrostyles-if you're serious I may send you a PM if that's ok.

Check out the new travel section of gilt.com. I live in NYC and there are such great deals that my girlfriend and I booked a night at the Standard purely because it was so damn cheap. Great hotel.

PM me if you need an invitation to gilt.com.

If you book on Amex (which is operated by Orbitz), you can usually pre-pay and get one of the Grands (Tribeca or Soho Grand) in that price range. They are pretty nice, modern hotels.

Another vote for Affinia Gardens. The junior suites are huge, the location is and the staff wonderful.
