Shirt discoloration

Thread Starter
So I've got this dress shirt by Nautica that I really like. Thick blue stripes, thin white stripes, alternating. Recently, when I wash it, it comes out of the wash with bits of pink discoloration, mostly around the edges of the shirt by the buttons, but also on the front panels of the shirt... now, I never put this shirt in the dryer (always hang dry), I always wash it with cold water, perm press cycle, using basic Tide powdered detergent (no bleach), and practically everything else in the wash with it is usually blue. The shirt is a very basic cotton material (i.e. not stretch or synthetic or anything like that). Any thoughts as to why this is happening? I can go buy another, but I don't want to screw the second one up too... I'm not made of money after all. I'll try to steal a digital camera from someone and take a couple of pictures to illustrate.

Tide is a very harsh detergent and I would not wash any of my clothing in it. That could be part of your problem. Your shirts really should not have mud and juice on them (what Tide is good for) so avoid using that. I make my own laundry detergent but there are some softer brands (Woolite?) that should work. Also, do not dry the shirt after washing it. Secondly, as long as you have the receipt, bring it back to the store you purchased it from. Anytime a product does not meet its expectations I bring it back, and if you deal with reputable places (I am assuming the shirt came from a Macys/Bloomies type of place) then they will refund your money.
