http://www.last.fm/user/kentwang/ For more obscure music the recommendation feature is useless, but it's still cool to chart what I've been listening too.

I've been using it a lot. It rules. Bump.

Bump.

For best results, use in conjunction with Pandora.

I don't like that you have to have their newer program running now in order to scrobble. I always forget to turn it on.

What do you mean? I just use their plugin. They offer ones for Winamp, foobar, etc.

A couple of months ago, their plugin for my machine (Mac running newest OS, tigerpanthermountainlion, whatever, and iTunes) stopped saving my songs. I had to d-l a new thing, and instead of just being a note icon in the upper right of the screen that designates it's running, I have to run this damn program, which essentially encourages me to use their radio function (which doesn't interest me, I just want charts). It's annoying and buggy, so I forget (or just decide not) to run it. Plus, I listen to more music through my iPod at work than at home, and I just run the iPod through my computer speakers at work, i.e., no scrobbling.

They are two separate services that use different techniques to recommend music depending on what you listen to. Last.fm uses what other users with similar taste to you listen to while Pandora uses some proprietary tagging and algorithms to work it out. The Pandora.fm site allows you to use the Pandora radio feature while simultaneously sending the data to your Last.fm/Audioscrobbler account.

yeah, i've been listening to pandora for a few weeks now, it's awesome. so with the addition of last.fm, can i actually listen to things other people are listening to? or does it just give me lists of songs?

Both actually. You can use plugins for say WMP or Winamp that send info on what you are playing to your profile. Then it can use that data. Or you can just use the last.fm radio player to stream music. You can say, click on some user's "radio" to hear some of "their" music.
