both of these words encompassed by www.gemologicalservices.com

Dan Anderson sold me my wedding band, wedding ring, and engagement ring.
Honest and very professional person, he also fedexed the diamond to me (so i can look at it) prior to any pay because he trusted me and he knows my brother and several members from my old church.

Im not sure he will do that for anyone but just saying if he's still there, he is highly recommended by me. His diamonds are from Israel and he makes multiple trips to there yearly.

blue nile is highly regarded. Also, Wal Mart is the largest seller of jewelry (and largest diamond importer I think) in the United States. A Wal Mart jewelry box is not as sexy as a Tiffany one, but you can probably get a great deal on a diamond there.

picked up a 1 carat diamond necklace at BlueNile.com last year and the experience was great.

Bluenile is overpriced. If you are not near NYC, look at ebay. A lot of the 47th St. stores are selling there and you can call them up to beat down the price. I bought my wife 2ct studs that just arrived today.

I purchased the diamond for my fiance's ring in-person at Solomon Brothers in Atlanta. They are a very reputable store with a great selection and very fair prices. In addition to their physical location, they have a very large web presence. I would feel very comfortable recommending them based on my in-store experience. Check out pricescope.com, which is the big diamond forum. It was very helpful when I was researching diamonds. It's actually where I first read about Solomon Brothers. They also recommend: whiteflash.com goodoldgold.com

How much did that set you back? I was looking at 1 ct studs and they look tiny, but don't carry a tiny price.

I think 2ct is the minimum stud size, but I couldn't seem to find any in the 500-1k terroritory. Is cubic in my future?

Step up to the big time, go 5ct studs or go home.

I have used both WhiteFlash.com and GoodOldGold.com (as Bromer has mentioned) for my wife's diamonds. Great service, great prices. Good Old Gold went as far as to make a video of the diamond for my wife's engagement ring, so I could see how it looked in real life (from 3000 miles away!). Very professional companies, both of them.

A place like Blue Nile or another reputable online dealer only stocks diamonds above a certain quality, but even the worst quality ones they carry in that size would be about $10K.

At 500 to 1k you are prob looking at .5 - .75ctw....maybe you can stretch it to 1ctw if you are willing to sacrifice on quality.

I can imagine the price to size ratio is exponential, but holy shit, if I go from .5ct/stud to 1ct/stud I'm going 10x more expensive? WTF.

I just bought a diamond for an engagement ring today. Got a Flawless 1 ct G color. Would have loved to get a 1.5ct but a flawless one will run 12 grand and I am not a baller yet. LOL I did get a fantastic deal.

Anything under 1/2 ct for like rings and necklaces I would have no problem using blue nile. Anything larger and I really have to see the diamond for myself since flaws really can ruin the look and sparkle.

Also most people will push you towards a SI diamond. Mainly because they are crap and make more money off of them. I wouldn't get anything under a VS2

WTF.

Cheapest .5 ct round on Blue Nile: $665
Cheapest 1 ct round on Blue Nile: $3,026
Cheapest 2 ct round on Blue Nile: $9,179

That's about 5 times from .5 to 1 and about 3 times from 1 to 2.

Would it piss most women off if my envisioned speaker system costs multiples of what I intend to spend on a ring?
