Dreams, goals, positive affirmations et. al.

I've always dreamed of doing some things. I've had some fantastic opportunities and some huge setbacks.

I'm now 60, and I realize that some dreams are impossible. Like becoming a Dr. and helping people. Or, in my case, being a normal family man.

But I'm not dead and I hope to have some time left.

In the last year I've been inspired by this:

"You can't make this stuff up and there were about 2,000 witnesses. It will all be in tomorrow's Houston Chronicle. It reminded me of dreams. There are kids right now with tough backgrounds and parents. And some of those kids are dreaming. Perhaps of becoming another Bill Gates or Larry Ellison. I'll be gone but I predict it will happen for a few kids. It might be in India or China but it will happen."

which I wrote about a friend.

And by this about John Halm Cullinan:

"This building erected A.D. 1926, in memory of Lieutenant John Halm Cullinan, 334th F. A. 90th Division, A. E. F., one of the millions of young Americans who served in the World War to preserve and perpetuate human liberty without regard to race, creed, or color, is dedicated to the American Negro to promote self-help, to inspire good citizenship and for the relief of suffering sickness and disease amongst them."

Story of Houston Negro Hospital here.

John was the Uncle of a dear friend of mine who has died.

Obviously, I can never equal the deeds of men like these. But they can be inspirations. This past week I did something that will help many, many, many drug addicted and abused single mothers. I received Thanks from the organization and other than that it will be anonymous.

It felt better than any instance of making ( and certainly losing ) money. Better than any "assistants" up to and including some Pleasures of Treasures girls and Hustler Girls. And certainly better than any article of clothing I have.

I'm also going to try and do a benefit for a truly worthy person in January. That, can and will be publicized ( including here ). I really hope it goes off.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has dreams and goals that they have achieved. Or particularly have your dreams changed as you've gotten older. I realize that the age disparity is wide on SF, and Jan and I hold up the North end!

Also, I think back to my Rice U. days. One of my fellow students always told me to "get into computers". I though he was a complete nerd and I happily smoked my weed and chased Texas girls. He ended up a major force at the premier silicon valley VC firm. I've ended up at SF That's OK, everything happens for a reason.

Share your thought and feelings. If someone had told me when I was 21 years old that I would feel better helping hundreds of drug addicted mothers rather than partying with some Hustler and Vivid girls, I truly would have thought they are crazy!

But then, many do think I'm crazy

One of my precepts:
I focus on something that
intimidates me.

This year I plan to
sit the CPA exam;
have classes ahead...

Also, I plan to
run another marathon
before I'm forty.

Other goals beckon,
new skills, projects, and hobbies,
I won't list them here.

I ran the Tenneco marathon once here in Houston.

It would be extremely difficult but I could try for another before I'm 70.

I do know many people that have run marathons in their 60s.

Not many ( or any ) at my weight though!

I want to run a marathon before I'm 30. That gives me a leisurely 12 years to train.

Visit every continent in the world, including Antarctica, at least once before I die.

You've made me think a bit.

Are the North and South poles continents?

And what about Greenland.

If they are not continents. And since I've been to Morocco, I guess I could say I've been to every continent.

Double post.

Maybe I'll try to hit the N. & S. Poles and Greenland too, but I'm getting a bit old for that.
