I would personally order a large AD. Letting out the darts only gives you more room in the waist.
I think a lot of people are confused with their sizing. The shoulders are the same in both bodies. You have a lower arm hole and a little more room in the chest with the AD. Why? A few reasons. One it's a lower armhole so naturally create more space. Two because I gave the AD more room in the chest it's a part of the pattern.
The switching of sizes isn't the answer for me. I am a large BD , a Medium AD, but I am also a large AD. Specially if I am layering. If you are use to high armholes a AD will feel weird. The BD and AD are two different style shirts. People are trying to make them into the same thing. I won't tell you what's right or what's wrong, I will tell you how I created the bodies of both shirts and how I thought they should be worn.
A lot of BD guys have switched to AD. When it comes to the charcoal heavy weight wool I would only do an AD but again that's me. The bulk of that fabric and darts not a great combo.
For all those wondering the "supper" shirt is finishing up and I should have the first proto in a week or so.
Pre-orders- I have increased with the length, sleeves, and arm width a quarter inch for shrinkage and layering purposes.
Thanks for the clarification on the different fits... I need to try a medium AD one of these days but they seem to sell out quick.
Sorry if this is a repeat for the rest of the folks on the thread - but what is the "supper" shirt?
