Anyone try teeth whitening?

Thread Starter
i drink a lot of coffee and i was wondering if anyone has used whitening products to get rid of yellow tint coffee drinking makes your teeth?

i think Crest whitening trays would really help us coffee drinkers out! i work with the people at Crest and the whitening trays whiten your teeth quickly and it''s only about 30 minutes a day.

you can still drink coffee after and before whenever you and still get whiter teeth, anyone think about whitening your teeth or using Crest?

i thought about never using Crest®

i thought about killing the people that work at their local tubing plant

maybe squeezing them dry from the feet up with a steamroller to make sure i get the last drop out

Any whitener will work if you use it regularly. Get the stronger stuff.

I had a tray made by a dentist which you load with a peroxide paste and wear at night. The side effect is incredible sensitivity to hot and cold to the point it was a struggle to drink a cup of coffee without cringing. Teeth did noticeably whiten but I probably would not be bothered doing it again given the side effects of this particular method. I assume googling would give you a ton of info. Enjoy your coffee and forget about whitening.

Start using sensodyne a week before you start, and keep it in your mouth a long time. When I whiten I will brush my teeth, then take a shower, then rinse my mouth out after that. It helps a great deal.

I did a few years ago at the dentist. They made a cast of my teeth and a tray to place the whitening solution in. . .then covered my eyes with googles that played a movie while some light worked on the compound for about an hour and a half.

I've tried Britesmile years ago. It works very well but my teeth got sensitive for a few days. the cost at that time was $350

Strips will get you some results, although the trays are much better. Always try using a straw when possible!

That worked for me.

Dentist trays are the best. I experienced some sensitivity, thankfully my dentist provided me with paste to brush with when this occurred and it ended the sensitivity immediately.

I know this is a spam thread, but in the interest of information, I just ordered these. Crest Professional Supreme Whitestrips. 14% peroxide - higher than anything you can buy in the store (supposedly). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...N7FR6V5GFQXDMD

My dentist says the only effective whitening products are attainable at the dentist. He may be a bit biased.

That said, I had whitening trays made used the bleach solution or whatever it is. It was quite effective. However, I was born with a missing adult tooth on the side of mouth and had a Maryland bridge put in around the time I was having the whitening done. One night the bleach in the tray crept up my tooth and into one of the happily exposed nerves -- I woke up literally screaming for the first and only time in my life.

Painful is an understatement.

I have had extensive whitening to counteract my "fluorosis" I have had ever since my childhood pediatritian recommended I take fluoride drops (doh!). I have undergone multiple bouts of "Zoom" in-chair, had custom trays, and used boxes upon boxes of Crest Professional Strength Strips. If you are unwilling to go the "sans coffee" route, start at the bottom of the 'Hydrogen Peroxide' tree and work your way up. I would ask your dentist for some trial Crest strips (vanilla, not professional) which have very little Hydrogen Peroxide in them. If you are unsatisfied after a week, try Pro Strength Crest out for size. If this doesn't work to your satisfaction (never mind drastic colour changing, your satisfaction should be your guide when to stop!), ask about trays. I currently use a tray once a year for maintainence. Trays come with Zoom whitening btw. If you decide to use Zoom, here's what they do/don't tell you. You sit in a chair and have a giant laser dry all of your teeth. Your lips are stretched wide by a mechanical device, and will later crack do to the inevitable laser "splash damage." When the laser has done its work, gel is put on your teeth like toothpaste on a tooth brush. Next, the gel is burned into your teeth, whitening the surface. This process takes 3 min/ tooth. After all your teeth are done, you are shown in the mirror the INSANE changes that have taken place. (My teeth were splotchy afterward, most likely due to my fluorosis, but I'm not sure if uneven 'paste burning' was to blame as well) They tell you that as your teeth rehydrate, you will feel 'little zingers' (quote) as your nerves come back to life (or whatever they do). This is only partially correct. You will feel the little zingers, but as your teeth fully rehydrate, the pain becomes more migrane in effect, with each additional tooth hurting more than the last. No pain killer helped me, and I'm very responsive to them. Consider Zoom/ any "in-chair" whitening your last resort. If you're coming to us, you don't have movie star treatment at your disposal anyway [On a personal level, I have never felt like I was actually contributing to SF before this post, some 1+ years of membership and a few months of lurking. I hope I have done some good in this wonderful community. I doubt (and hope!) that anyone has had more experience with personal bleaching than I have. Moral of the story, think before you plink (fluoride drops into your newborn's meals).]
